Oh style gurus, I'm off for a European weekend break and can only take one pair of shoes. I need a pair of trainers I can walk around in all day but will also look ok going to smartish restaurant. The city is notorious for its rainy weather so they need to be fairly robust.

Any ideas wise ones?

i would go for a comfy out of ankle boots instead. Then you could wear them with jeans during the day and a dress/skirt etc in the evening.
flat Chelsea style ones are good for this. Just make sure they have a good sole and cushioning. I have a pair of Toms ankle boots I live in and they are so comfy but also cool looking (wel I think they are anyway)

Doggymummar · 04/11/2023 17:37

I got some soft as butter ankle boots and will be wearing them for 4 days on a cirty break next week. If I need anything else I will buy it there. That's the beauty of cities, you can get anything.

OP, you can't go away with only one pair of shoes. You can't. It's impossible. You need at least two pairs. What happens if there is a footwear malfunction, or if your feet get wet?

WeighDownOnMe · 04/11/2023 17:55

Oh @Burnamer you can always rely on Irregular Choice for the ugliest footwear that ever existed.

I'm distraught that this thread is not about actual unicorn shoes. I want some.

I thought you actually wanted unicorn trainers. I was going to suggest These from Irregular Choice. Not quite unicorn but that type of vibe. I was looking forward to seeing the other suggestions.
very disappointed.

Maybe that's the answer Smile

I have to take the littlest case ever so don't think there will be space for more shoes

But you'll be wearing one pair, stuff your underwear rolled up inside the other pair in your case.

Burnamer · 04/11/2023 18:03

@WeighDownOnMe they are better than my suggestion. Not a tradition trainer, true, but maybe @SoapyCoriander would consider a hi-top?

Burnamer · 04/11/2023 18:04

On a serious note, what’s the restaurant outfit. We need to know that to advise

MadKittenWoman · 04/11/2023 18:42

Why can't you take a proper case? I'm going to Paris for 5 days later this month and taking a medium case and a carry-on. Room for a change of boots or 3 and a change of coat, with a few co-ordinating daytime and evening outfits. I won't know what I want to wear until I get there and hate being restricted. You won't want to wear the same thing for a day sightseeing and for a smart restaurant in the evening, will you?

Ginmonkeyagain · 04/11/2023 20:00

How about a pair of smart flat lace ups? I have some nice bronze ones from Clark's that are good for walking.

That said I would try and slip a pair of ballet flats, or low court shoes in your case. I got away with just Birkenstocks on holiday in France this summer but I think November is a very different prospect.

I think these are nailed on. I might see if they have other colours Grin

You should really try to get a second pair of shoes into your suitcase. Even a cabin sized one should have enough room for that. Wet feet for a few days would be miserable and it’s nice to change into something different for dinner.

theheadband · 04/11/2023 20:53

Wear the comfy shoes for the journey and pack the smart pair.
