In Between sizes nightmare

Does anyone else suffer from this? It is a nightmare with trousers or jeans.

Say the correct 'fit' for me is an 8. The overall fit is bob on, seemingly across many brands.
A 10 can fit ok, but is usually too wide at the hips and waist, or has too much crotch fabric flopping about.

But if there is a slight variation in my gut, day to day, the 8 can feel slightly uncomfortable. Sadly though a 10 is still big where I don't want it to be. This can alter throughout a given week and is really starting to put me off wearing anything with a waist on it!
I don't like elasticated as they make me look awful and even they can be uncompromising unless you size up, which doesn't work anywhere else!

Is this common? I am obviously between sizes generally, but am tempted to go over to dresses at this point.

Yep.I'm the same. I am small framed so any extra weight tips me into the next dress size. It has meant that I've sent a bloody fortune on clothes over the years, jeans in an 8 and a 10. I even notice it with coats if they are fitted in style.

I mostly live in leggings and dresses now as they're more forgiving.

Oops sorry I must've hit 'quote' instead of reply.

Try Levi’s as they have in between sizes in terms of the waist measurement. Go to a Levi’s store.

Next do some of their jeans in odd sizes, 11, 13 etc

LittleDrops · 03/11/2023 18:43

Thanks, might look in to that.

I wonder if it is because I have relatively high hips, so it isn't about clothes sizes themselves. I remember at school I hated anything with elastic or pulled in waists, even though my waist was small. I was always uncomfortable in them. I long for something flat against the hip/waist that doesn't dig in or crunch up.
I struggle with dresses as they don't fit my lifestyle so it's a pain the arse!

I am always between sizes too ! Jeans are actually ok because they do come in half sizes (26, 27, etc) but trousers and skirts are always a problem for me and it’s rare to find a perfect fit.

The Levi site makes no sense at all.
They put a 5'9 model with a 24inch waist in a size 27 and they look tight on her. I would need a 30 waist in these, which sounds way off. (I am usually 26/27)
She also wears 28" length and at her height they reach the floor - very very unlikely! Grin
