Navy tights - Opinions please!

I've recently bought a lovely Joanie / Dawn O'Porter dress and didn't realise until it arrived it's very dark navy blue - I was so sure it was Black!
It's slightly above the knee so definitely not an option to go bare legs this time of Year, I feel like the only option would be navy tights.
I've worn Navy blue tights previously but they always feel a bit too blue for my liking, and I struggle with what to wear shoe wise with them too! Navy shoes or is that too much!?
I'm heading to M&S tomorrow and hoping there's such a thing as very dark navy tights.
What's your opinion on them?

why do they have to be navy? when you could have mustard, ochre, peach, pink, crimson, orange
depends on the dress too of course, formal, floppy with pockets, fitted, will decide the footwear
can you put up a pic?

Yes there are such a thing as dark navy tights. Can't wear them myself as they remind me of my school uniform. Maybe you could go for a contrasting colour? Or hang it all wear black and screw the "colour rules". Either way enjoy the new dress!

I think black or barely-black semi-sheer tights look the most chic with navy. Pairing the dress with navy or red/yellow tights would be a bit Miss Trunchbull IMO.

I prefer charcoal/grey tights to navy for a neutral option, more leeway as long as they tone with the blue of the dress/skirt. Also go with more shoes.

Thanks for the suggestions all, I hadn't even considered sheer black or charcoal tights - of course they could work!
The dress itself is pretty wacky (pretty normal for Me, have been likened to dressing like a CBeebies presenter) so I wanted to make the bottom half plain, as I pretend my hardest to be a grown up for the day!

OP, never grow up, continue to be fun instead 😀. The world will be better that way.

I have a few dresses which I wear navy tights with. I always wear knee high brown boots with them - ankle boots show too much blue!

I wear navy tights with navy/denim dresses, but burgundy is also a good option.

I have some navy tights but they don’t go with every navy dress. Some of my navy dresses look much better with grey tights. So it might depend on the exact colour of the dress. If it’s very dark navy, you might find that navy tights are too much of a contrast.

I have a pair of very dark navy tights from M&S that I often have to check whether they are the right ones when I’ve put them on! I’m also a fan of charcoal tights with navy dresses, or other colours depending on the occasion.

Agree with the suggestions already made, especially charcoal.

Navy tights with navy dresses often don't work - they are too different, colour-wise.

But M&S do have dark navy tights, I bought them recently to wear with a bottle green dress.

I think the old advice about black and navy not going together is silly! I wear black tights with navy dresses - I think it goes much better than trying to make your tights matchy-matchy.
