Oooh, lurk.

ShrinkingViolet · 09/03/2008 23:06

drink plenty of water, and use Liz Earle Hot Cleanse and Polish. Still have open pores, but not nearly the quantity of blackheads. Not sure why the water is good, other than for health generally.

Justtwosecondspoppet · 10/03/2008 00:38

I do use Liz Earle but so far has made no difference to blackheads-use the hot cloth cleanse and polish and the clay deep cleansing mask. Have only been using it a month tho and have been using the normal moisturiser so have bought some of the light one instead-skin overall has defo improved since using L.E. though!

I've been using lush ultra bland to cleanse off make up as soon as I get in from work and Neutrogena scrub http://www.boots.com/shop/product_details.jsp?productid=1046819&classificationid=1011474in the evening before bed and then a little light wash with the neutrogena in the morning, followed by LE skin tonic and light moisturiser. I've noticed a massive difference in the amount of blackheads and the size of my pores.

I think taking off my make up early evening and the exfoliation before bed (I read that your skin repairs its self at night), so taking off the dead, dull skin before hand must help it.

BroccoliSpears · 10/03/2008 13:42

What about blackhead scrubs?
There's one advertised on telly at the mo by an annoying American 15 year old with perfect skin.
Anyone had any success with that sort of thing?

policywonk · 10/03/2008 13:45

Try the muslin cloths - I got mine from Body Shop but you can re-use old baby muslins I think. Give your skin a good old rub with them every evening. I use cheap cleansers/moisturisers, but have noticed a definite improvement.

MascaraOHara · 10/03/2008 13:48

Ooo I've just waged a war on my blackheads. I'm not wearing foundation for 2 weeks and have been washing religiously with a blackhead wash daily. I've also using a clay mask twice a week.

I don't know if the not wearing fondatiuon will help. I only started that today lol

I have tried lots of expensive stuff. so now I'm just going back to basics.

I don't really have huge blackheads just really suffer with blocked pores around my chin and nose.

onebatmother · 10/03/2008 16:46

me too mascara.
Am trying hot flannel twice daily - dunked in v hot tap water, rung out, put on face, repeated till you can feel your face getting oilier as the bastards melt... unfortunately mine have hardened into plugs since i last took care of my skin.

Have also just started HUGELY expensive face regime using M-lab (present), so am now cleansing, toning etc etc religiously twice a day, whereas previously could easily be twice a week (don't wear makeup other than lipstick). Am trying to be a groomed woman, though it is a hopeless task..

MascaraOHara · 10/03/2008 17:05

glad I'm not alone. My problem is that I touch my face A LOT

green · 10/03/2008 17:29

i really like origins charcoal mask and can see the improvement after i've used it, especially if i remember a couple of times a week.

Anna8888 · 10/03/2008 17:36

Hot water, clean fairly rough flannel (washed daily in boiling water), Dove soap. Scrub gently at your face, rinse very well. Moisturise.

Celery · 10/03/2008 17:44

I've posted it before, and I'll post it again . After spending a fortune on many different products, this works for me. Not 100%, because a lot of my acne/blackhead problem is down to hormones, but it certainly helps a lot, where nothing else did.

2oz water
3oz of cider vinegar
2 tbs of honey ( I use manuka )
4 oz of ground almonds.

scrub into face twice a day. It stinks and it's messy. I haven't used it for a few weeks, and my face has totally errupted again, so I just mixed up another batch this afternoon. Give me a couple of days and I'll come back and confirm that this stuff works!

lilacclaire · 10/03/2008 18:25

Try Proactiv.
You can find it on ebay, be sure to get the American version as it is stronger.
here
It can be a bit drying though.

MissingMyHeels · 10/03/2008 18:28

If you have some spare cash to throw at the blackhead problem you could book in for a facial with extraction or try microdermabrasion? I have crystal clear facial treatments and find them really good for getting all the filth and pollution yuck out of my pores.

squeeze,squeeze, squeeze.

FrannyandZooey · 10/03/2008 19:03

get old
your skin dries out

worked for me

Miggsie · 10/03/2008 19:06

Vitamin E is good for the skin and hair.
Evening primose oil ditto.

Buy facial mask quality clay from Fresh and Wild it's £3 for 100g which lasts AGES and way cheaper than buying anything ready made.
Mix 1 teaspoon of the clay with water and a little olive oil and apply.
It will remove everything!
"Fullers earth" is the nearest ready made product which also works for eczema.
However, if your skin is naturally oily, you will get blackheads.
The upside of this is that the natural oil means you get wrinkles way later tham people without blackheads..
Swings and roundabouts.

piratecat · 10/03/2008 19:07

squeezing, it gets rid, but they keep coming back, I hate mine. all around the nose, and now afew more on my cheeks, not massive but 'there'.

I hate it cos i have combination skin, and cannot get the balance right.

Maidamess · 10/03/2008 19:13

Try micro dermabrasion in a do it at home kit. Boots Time delay, Roc and Avon all do them. I think they are really good, and I am clogged- of- pore at the best of times.

brimfull · 10/03/2008 19:19

Just don't use too many scrubbing exfoliant things as it will make your skin produce more oil and make the problem worse.

Desiderata · 10/03/2008 19:20

Honey.

Smear it all over your nose, and leave it for as long as you like. It washes off very easily with plain cold water. It draws out impurities and closes the pores.
