Graduation outfit

I have completed a part time Masters degree over the last three years and it is my Graduation Ceremony in a couple of weeks. Very proud of myself and really looking forward to the celebration. Obviously, I'll have my cap and gown, but wondering what to wear. I'm 50, buxom and about 5ft 6. I have a really lovely dark velvet knee length dress from Seasalt (it was last year's Christmas dress). It's a tunic style thing and it suits me and it comfy. Would that be ok with dark opaque tights? I have neat ankle boots OR a chunky loafer? It will be mainly mature students. Thank you!

Many congratulations!! From my expense of recent ceremonies (in London), absolutely anything goes! People wear their national dress, sleeveless and strapless gowns, suits. Many very glamourous people dressed like they are at a wedding. Your outfit sounds fine.

Sounds perfect - agree with a PP - having attended my DS's graduation this year it seems that 'anything goes'. Just make sure your shoes are comfortable and you can walk in them!

Sounds perfect and the photos will be fab.

I am the same age and graduated this year with mostly mature students. There was a massive range of outfits, from formal dresses and heels to jeans and crocs.
I would wear exactly what you want to. I went hippy dress, and I was very glad I did.
Congratulations on your achievement.

It's fine though an outfit with a button does help because just like many things they are designed for men, for a suit. I ended up safety pinning dsd's

Thanks all. Delighted that I don't need to go looking for something new.
