Am I too old at 54? Will it be painful to sleep on? It's my birthday soon and I think I'm having a bit of a mid life crisis 😂

No. Yes. Go for it!

TallulahBetty · 27/10/2023 11:42

A travel pillow will be your best friend, so you can put your ear in the hold to sleep on that side

Stresa22 · 27/10/2023 11:42

I think it can look very elegant. Treat yourself!

Purplecatshopaholic · 27/10/2023 11:49

Go for it. I got one at a similar age. Love it. (It took a while to heal though - a travel pillow to sleep on is a good shout).

Floofydawg · 27/10/2023 12:06

Hmmm worried about the sleeping. I had one in my twenties but let it heal up.

You could get one that is a bit more tucked away? I have a daith and while it was more painful to have done, it was a dream to heal, I could sleep on it that evening as it's tucked away.

Apossum · 27/10/2023 12:21

Do it, definitely! I’ve got quite a few piercings, bjt helix wise, I’ve three one side and two the other (plus a forward helix) and a travel pillow is a good idea, altho I never actually used one, just slept on the other side… but I don’t move much in my sleep!

itsnothingoriginal · 27/10/2023 13:16

Go for it...

I'm late 40s and just got a conch piercing as its a bit easier than a helix to sleep on. I love it and is healing beautifully. I'm seeing more and more 40+ women with multiple piercings.

PrintersCourt · 27/10/2023 13:38

I love mine (I’m 50) but it’s been the most painful and troublesome of all my piercings, I assume because it’s cartilage. Still looks really cool though!

BigHeartyTruffle · 27/10/2023 13:40

Got mine done fairly recently, it was painful to lie on the first few nights but I did get used to just sleeping on my other side, and used a travel pillow when I really wanted to sleep on that side.

BPA aftercare worked wonders for me - I started using it after a couple of days and it seemed to really speed up the healing process

https://thepillowwithahole.co.uk/product/the-original-pwah-v2/ this is what you need - version 2. They a literally a piercing-saver and as comfy as a normal pillow. Helixes dont tend to heal well at all if you sleep on them. Im mid 40's and I love my cartilage piercings but they all are taking over a year to heal - but to me they're worth persevering with.

My daith is nearly 2 years in. , healed nicely but I haven’t had it changed yet.
Forward helix in other ear is 6 months so a while to go. . I’ve had a couple of episodes with it where I couldn’t feel the back as it swelled up but it settled with warm salty water bathing.
I did think I’ll go back to the piercer if it doesn’t calm down but it’s been fine. I think it got knocked I’m pretty good about not sleeping on it.

Go for it. . I can 100% say neither one was painful

Allthecatseverywhereallatonce · 27/10/2023 14:24

Got mine at 40 and love it but my god it was painful to lay on however I soon got used to sleeping on the other side. Healed well too.

Girlwithapple · 27/10/2023 14:37

I second the pillow with a hole that @PinkCosYouAreSoVery has recommended - wouldn't be without it now as I have multiple cartilage piercings on both sides. You are definitely not too old 😁

Floofydawg · 27/10/2023 15:56

Ooh maybe conch would be better, more visible if you have longer hair.

Looks great!! Lovely stud 😀

belcarra · 29/10/2023 20:42

I'm 61 and had my helix pierced 5 weeks ago. Love it. First couple of weeks it hurt if I accidently knocked it. I've been using BPA oil twice a day. sleeping - I just dont lie on that side. I'm now looking at studs to wear for when the time's right to change.

DeathStarCanteenGal · 30/10/2023 00:16

nice! I too am over 50 and had a helix done 4 weeks ago. love it and not had any bother with it so far, but chose the ear I don't tend to sleep on (but did have a third lobe done on that ear)

Floofydawg · 30/10/2023 08:21

Thanks all! Thinking about my next one now.

I’ve had my Tragus done age 50. 4 days in and I’m considering the pillow with a hole but it’s a lot of money. Are they definitely worth it guys?

Wassat · 31/10/2023 22:32

Don't bother with a pillow with a hole- travel pillows are fine. I got one from dunelm with a washable cover... think it was about £6
