Best trainers for Big Feet?

KissTheRains · 25/10/2023 15:58

So many nice trainers about lately but my size 8.5s look like river craft in most of them.

I like the look of those new "Big" Converse that I see the young and tiny feeted people wear, but I fear on my 44 year old 5'11 size 18 body that I'd make Herman Munster jealous or Tiger Woods would be grasping my neck to try chipping one in for the win.

I also like Puma Carina, but I'm worried the platform sole would add exaggerate the height and clumpy Ness?

I've had vans in the past that were kind of OK but they're so thin underfoot and the heel wears so quick that I'm hesitant to buy more.

I know I should embrace my feet.. I try, but, I hate them..

I should add that when I was thinner younger, Heeled wedge trainers were great, but these days they add too much to height and when I enter rooms a pro wrestling announcer starts introducing me...
"Making their way to the ring, standing 6feet 5 and weighing in at 250lbs.... Leviathan Feet" 🤪

Your feet are only 8.5. They're tiny.

Bless you. ❣️
They don't feel tiny to me. I went shopping with my daughter, her BFF and her BFFs mum.
The mum 5 years you get and a size 6.. I hate really like her alot. (I am kidding, she's lovely)

She suggested I try on these bland beige like coloured big clumpy boots from Deichmann, I tried them on but I hated them, looking down and it looked the boots had been decorated in magnolia ready for new tenants.

I like Supergas. They don;t seem to make my feet look too monstrous and are comfortable.
However, my best pair of white "plimsoll" trainers were £8 from Matalan 3 years ago and still going strong.

(Size 8/42)

AuntieMarys · 25/10/2023 16:51

I'm a 10 in trainers! I wear Superga and New Balance and give no fucks about my size!

Oldthyme · 25/10/2023 16:57

Try being a size 9!

Long elegant aristocratic toes (I’ve been told.)

Id love to wear a dress with nice white trainers but sourcing the white trainers in a feminine style is challenging and if I try men’s I look as if I’m wearing boats.

It’s very sad. 🙄

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 25/10/2023 17:08

8.5 isn't considered big these days, wear what you want and be kinder to yourself!

KissTheRains · 25/10/2023 17:13

@FuzzyPuffling I'll have a look at Superga. Thank you.

@AuntieMarys I've liked a few NB, there's a pair where the tread goes up the back, I thought they were nice but again I felt made my feet look big. Kudos for not giving a fig, I don't know why they bother me more than the podgy muffin top and shoulders like a bricklayer, but they do.

@Oldthyme I've bought men's shoes in the past and tbh they were fine but I just couldn't shake the fact they're men's and I want women's ones. (My brain is the problem, not the feet or shoes lol)

KissTheRains · 25/10/2023 17:17

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor I thank you for the sentiment. Though I wish women's sizes would expand to bigger, a LOT still seem to stop at 8 for women and of you want bigger, buy mens.
Even walking boot manufacturers who you'd think would build bigger to allow for socks, they all seem to be like,
"Size 1-8 is for women, nice colours and shades and pinks and purples. Any bigger, you're obviously a man and need ONLY blacks and greys.. maybe a bit of blue for the wacky lads."

Im 9. Limited at times. I like vans as they go with lots. Shoezone do some 9s. But alot of runners are only up to 8s.

I've seen some 9s on places like Simply Be and LTS etc. I don't know why manufacturers cut off women's range at 8, they need to extend them really. I'd maybe accept my feet a bit more if they did.. does that make any sense? I dunno just waffling really.

I have narrow feet so men's shoes are useless.
But even if they weren't, I too want nice women's shoes. (See my thread n sparkly trainers)
And yes to the socks. "You, freak, can have grey tweedy socks. That's all you deserve. Freak"

MrsMitford3 · 25/10/2023 17:27

I agree with the Superga's.

I have just bought a new pair of asics for a city break and they are so comfy I don't care how they look. I also have a pair of Onitsuka Tiger's bought on a mums net recommendation and they are fab. Get so many compliments on them!

I find they have a lot of size 8.5 and up here https://www.zalando.co.uk/

I'm size 5.5 but I'm only 5'4". I hate pink and purple.
I will wear men's shoes and boy's shoes.

Women's shoes tend to be size 4 - 8 and men's 6 - 13
There must be many people who are outside these ranges

I remember many discussions...
"Just buy mens socks, what's the difference?"

There isn't a difference really... Except..
Fewer nice colours, fewer nice patterns, fewer material choices, fewer cute theme choices, fewer fluffy comfortable and cosy ones, fewer nice knee high welly boot socks. Etc.

Head to Primark, there's a wall and half of women's socks in every colour, pattern, design, harry potter house, material, length you like..

Mens choices are..
in the baskets near tills, 20 pack of £15 JCB Work socks or Umbro Sport socks. You can have any colour and length you like as long as it's crew and black. 🤣

Yes I got 2 pairs runners in yours clothing but got 8e as 9s are v big so u can go down. They perfect fit. Mine are 8e

FuzzyPuffling · 25/10/2023 17:36

Although my DH has a pair of socks with sharks on.

KissTheRains · 25/10/2023 17:38

I bet there's people that would love more choice full stop.
Some men that would like purple and pinks and Nike's with baby pink swooshes, sparkly bits and purple laces etc and women that hate pink like you @DuchessOfSausaage should have blacks and greys and blues in sizes that fit

In this day and age, you'd think men could have colour and women could have bigger. But shoe designers don't think that way, I suppose they make what sells.

If you are 5’11” then size 8.5 feet are probably the right size for you. You’d look silly with smaller feet.

FuzzyPuffling · 25/10/2023 17:41

They make what sells because there are few choices. We can only buy what's provided.

MagpiePi · 25/10/2023 17:44

@DuchessOfSausaage I’m another one that can’t stand that women’s clothing and footwear has to be pink and sparkly.

I’ve got size 9/9.5 feet and have worn men’s socks and trainers for decades.

DuchessOfSausaage · 25/10/2023 18:10

I thought I was going to have a telling off about not having big feet. I have big feet and big hands. the rest of me is fairly small.

I wear a fair bit of red, and won't wear pink or purple or sparkly, but trainers are often with pink or purple in them.
My favourite pair of shoes are men's ones, but they could pass as unisex. They fit perfectly.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 25/10/2023 18:16

My DD is Size 9 and she loathes her feet. I’ve had to buy her boy’s trainers when she was a teenager, in attractive grey. She now only wears black. But had to buy online as Shops just don’t stock larger sizes.

I’ve got loads of her cast off heels at home that I keep threatening to sell on a Transvesite site.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 25/10/2023 18:18

These are her latest purchase

I'm a 7.5/8 and I find black trainers make my feet look freakishly small so maybe try some black ones😂 I like Nike and the ladies ones go up quite high.

DuchessOfSausaage · 25/10/2023 18:21

Adidas is all the rage this winter. It's terrible that many don't cater for bigger sizes.
People are getting taller, so feet should also be getting bigger, shouldn't they?

M&S sells Supergas up to size 11.
