Your favourite thick black tights for autumn?? Ideally with tummy/thigh control and particularly from M&S/John Lewis or online

Well it's that time of year... I love wearing warm dresses with thick black or navy tights. My legs are definitely on the chubby side, but I'm tall with a good waist so it works......

Which do you recommend? Best for me is a matt black if possible, with some thigh/tummy control (but not too much). I'm happy to spend more on each pair if they last well. And I'm often in John Lewis or M&S so those are great places to start - or online of course - but anywhere else you find your favourites is great.

I'd love to buy a handful of pairs which will last the winter!

How tall is tall? I am 6’ with a 34” inside leg and have never found tights on the high street that are long enough for me. I wear Snag 120 deniers and Better Tights 150 deniers. Both completely matte with none of the shine that makes my legs look like sausages! I have pairs which are 3-4 years old and still perfect despite regular washing and wearing.

I’ve had all kinds of tights with varying degrees of success from M&S, H&M, Next, Oh Polly etc - I always come back to the shaping 40 denier tights from Primark (I think they come I’d 80 denier too.) I think they’re about £3 a pair so I buy 2/3 pairs and they last me the winter.

Walford tights, the best but cost a bit more than M&S etc

I know and love the Velvet feel so will get a couple of pairs of those but sadly want a bit more "control" usually - so I am going to try the M&S Magicwear too!

Tall is not tall when talking to someone of 6 foot! Most impressive. I'm 5.8

May I deviate slightly OP? If you want a "bit more control" instead of control top tights or control knickers, try one of these with the tights.

I’m 5ft 8, size 12 and wear heist tights. I love them but they are expensive. I bought a few pairs on Black Friday a couple of years ago and still wearing those.

I really like Heist. They're expensive but the pair of thick black opaques I have are just starting their fourth winter and still look good as new
