Chapped lips

Midnight2290 · 24/10/2023 12:45

Hello,

I have the most chapped and dry lips. I’m trying to drink a lot more water (which is translating to cups of tea currently!!) but I’m wondering if anyone can recommend any products? I.e. lip scrubs or balms.

usually tend to use Vaseline or Carmex…

anything else for me to consider?

A scrub could potentially make it worse. I've heard Vaseline and Carmex can be very drying if you overuse them. If my lips are dry I just use a normal moisturiser (like Aveeno hand or body cream) multiple times a day and it sorts them out

Blistex Relief Cream

DollyMatrix · 24/10/2023 13:34

Eucerin Aquaphor. Huge tub for the money, game changer.

KirstenBlest · 24/10/2023 13:40

Blistex in a tube Blistex Relief Cream 5g | Skin | Superdrug
Other shops sell it

Don't use scrubs. Avoid anything that contains salicylic acid.
Take a multivitamin A-Z.

Another vote for Blistex

Stay away from Vaseline it makes it a lot worse

lanisoh nipple cream

FoghornUnicorn · 24/10/2023 13:56

I use Dr Paw Paw lip mask at night which I find makes a big difference and I don’t wake up with dry lips.

I use Carmex or Lanolips through the day.

The Nuxe Reve de Miel Honey Lip Balm, which you can get in M&S, is the only thing that worked for me.
The cute little glass pot, not the stick.
Bit spendy but lasts for ages.

evilharpy · 24/10/2023 14:01

Eight Hour Cream works for me

This. I swear by it. I've always had very dry lips (no idea why - I drink lots of water, never lick my lips etc) and Lansinoh keeps them hydrated

Midnight2290 · 24/10/2023 14:11

Thanks everyone!

I’m actually going to give this a go!

I’ve heard good things about this!!

Boots No7 do a nice lip cream that sinks right in, so isn’t greasy like balm but is really moisturising.

Ithinkitstimeforbed · 24/10/2023 16:25

Agree with PP’s saying blistex relief cream, great if they’re really chapped. Then maintain with burt’s bees lip balm, it’s lovely!

MargotBamborough · 24/10/2023 16:27

Burt's Bees.

Midnight2290 · 24/10/2023 16:29

I’m really tempted to give max 3 of these a go and report back my findings! 😂

Just try the Blistex and put the others on your Christmas present wish list

My holy grail is this Aquaphor Lip Repair Ointment - Long-lasting Moisture to Soothe Dry Chapped Lips - .35 fl. oz. Tube amzn.eu/d/fYy0Sgk

I have bad lips and often get cuts at the side of my mouth (medication).. I've tried so many different ones but this isn't stitcky, has no smell, stays in for hours even when drinking water, lasts for ages and it's tiny enough for pocket. You can't beat it with a big stick. The cheaper ones tend to wear off when having drinks (I carry water bottle everywhere). This lasts during the night As well

TheHawkisHowling · 24/10/2023 16:36

I would say no products at all on your lips, avoid licking or biting them as much as humanly possible, and drink eight glasses of water a day (not tea! It's a diuretic!).

Thanks for the reminder about the tea!! Maybe that’s where I’ve been going wrong. I drink about 3 cups of tea a day and 1 cup of coffee… water or squash in between this.

def need to up my water intake.

Thanks, I’ll check this out as well 😊

I am looking for something intensive that’ll last through the night that I can apply before sleep too. I’m less concerned about the day time as I’m happy reapplying through out the day.

You don’t have to answer this, but I’m curious to know what medication you take? I also take a medication and I’m wondering if I’m having a similar side effect to you.

It's interesting that other people say vaseline is drying. I find it very good and have very dry skin, have excema, and am allergic to a lot of things. The other thing I use on my lips is emulsifying ointment.

Foxblue · 24/10/2023 19:26

Another vote for Blistex relief cream!
The 8 hour cream is also great, Aldi do a version under the brand name Lacura.
Avoid vaseline like the plague.
But drinking loads of water has really done the trick for me, so good luck on that one!
