Suggestions for a really short person please

Going shopping with my sister tomorrow. She's 4'7" ish so really not very tall. She is about a size 12, recently lost some weight, and needing new jeans and possibly a few other items. She wants jeans from M and S and thinks that the short ones will not need taking up. So a good place to start.

Looking for suggestions of other high St places or garments which are good for the super short, please? Also her feet are a size 2 so any suggestions for footwear would also be brill. Its so much better nowadays buying kids shoes as there is more variety but we hope to avoid trawling round too much.

My sister has autism and does not like anything too adventurous or to try countless items on, but does want some smart casual wardrobe updates! Thank you in advance!

Mango Sienna cropped flare jeans are good for me and I am only slightly taller than your sister. They have a raw hem so if they do need taking up a little I imagine that it could be a DIY affair.

I think the lengths of the M and S jeans have changed so I think your sister would need an extra small which I believe you might have to order online but I am not too sure.

Its hard because a lot of more affordable physical high street shops have disappeared! Next has a petite range as do new look and matalan but there's not always loads in stock.

Would she be able to fit into kids clothes as well? Because kids are so much bigger (and taller) these days a size 12 shouod fit age 14 or so fine etc and while obviously some things would be too childish for things like basic trousers or tops would be ok. I'm a shorty and I'd do that if I were a bit slimmer! Plus no VAT so they are cheaper.

if you try some of the stores above she can mix and match kids/petite/standard stuff in the changing room.

If you don't have any luck lots of places stock more petite stuff online than in store so could that be an option? Sainsburys tu has a 25% sale on most items atm. Dorothy perking is online only now but has a petite range.

M&S short are now really long. I am 5ft and they are inches too long for me. They don’t have many in XS (I am so cross about this!) but look out for those. Also look out for cropped jeans in a decent shape.

johnnydoe · 24/10/2023 12:22

Test

Darklane · 24/10/2023 16:38

I’m 5’1” & M&S short are just about ok it longer than they used to be, so will be too long I think for your sister. Would she consider children’s? Older children are taller than me these days, my grandsons, teens, tower over me. Advantage is no VAT either so a bit less ££.

Comedycook · 24/10/2023 16:41

Next does a petite range ....

Also New look does a clothing brand for teens..it's called 915...I think. Apologies if I got that wrong. They might have a something which fit her...the stuff is quite nice.

KirstenBlest · 24/10/2023 17:09

M&S Extra Short will be too long.

Thanks for the heads up on the M and S jeans..those lengths do seem long @KirstenBlest @Darklane @Chewbecca

Will consider getting them shortened.
Thanks for the suggestions of alternative shops. Not sure we have a mango @Britpopbaby but will find out. They sound good.

Kids clothes a bit hit and miss @easylikeasundaymorn but can but try!

@Comedycook will also try Next thanks.

I'm 5'3" size 8 and find their sizings massive, maybe a 10 would work on her.

I’d also really recommend kids clothes. I’m 5 ft 2 but find the coats in mango / Zara kids fit really well.

They’re the best ones - new look teen range is ok but not as stylish. Obviously you have to be a bit picky and ignore the styles that are blatantly aimed at kids.

River Island is also good for petite jeans.

Poniesandrainbows · 24/10/2023 18:15

I'm 5 ft 5 and wear shirt in M&S so reckon she'll need x short

CardamomBuns · 24/10/2023 20:58

Uniqlo will take up trousers for free (new purchases from there obviously!). They measure the length in the changing rooms as you try on. Ready in a couple of days.

Paulisexcluded · 24/10/2023 21:13

@CardamomBuns that's amazing! Tha ks I will see if we have one.
@Mushroo thanks for recommendations
@Poniesandrainbows that's mad isn't it? 5'5" is definitely round average height surely?

I'm 4ft 11ins and am finding all the petite ranges seem to have got longer. Topshop trousers fit me best, though I do feel a little old for some of the styles.

Leafytrees · 24/10/2023 21:34

Meant to say if I buy M&S, Next, etc. petite I always have to get them taken up. They're always out of proportion as well, which your sister has probably experienced.

Leafytrees · 24/10/2023 21:36

Sorry I keep pressing send too soon. I meant to say a lot of sites now include an inside leg measurement so worth measuring your sister before you go to get an idea of where might work for her.
