Button down knit dress

Looking for a button down knit dress in black to wear with knee high boots. I would consider dark navy or green. I'd like to be able to dress it up or down. Most importantly, I'd like it to be fitted but in a way that's kind to a middle age bumpy body, so probably a thick quality fabric.
I'd like it to be v neck and no shorter than knee lenghth. I am only 5.1" so sometimes I can get away with mini. I am a size 10, although for this type of dress I might have to go up a size to accommodate my derriere. Budget around £100. Please don't suggest vinted.
(for illustration purposes, something like this, but shorter, and way better quality: https://www.newlook.com/uk/womens/clothing/dresses/burgundy-ribbed-knit-button-front-midi-dress/p/861409767)

Yumi
Might be too long, but I always find them really short (I am 5'8" though)

NutellaWithEverything · 24/10/2023 10:12

Thanks @IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads. I really don't want the fit&flare style. I'd like it to be fitted throughout.

Just as a warning, these quite often stretch/ gape across the buttons and look awful, however maybe an expensive one (or nonfunctional buttons?) would be okay?

NutellaWithEverything · 24/10/2023 10:15

Thanks @GettingStuffed. I suspect that one might be too short even for me, once the dress has stretched to accommodate my derriere. I am also not super keen on the flippy skirt detail.
However, this has taken me to see this other dress which is much closer to what I'm after, except I suspect it might still be too short.

@1035tg, agreed, that's why I'd like a decent quality one with substantial weight to it.

(One of the reviews say the buttons on the new look one are just for decoration)

This is quite nice, could wear with knee high boots and a trench.

blueshoes · 24/10/2023 18:31

I am your height and size 6-8. I am not sure it is a short and fitted knit dress is a good look for a middle-aged lumpy body (mine included).

I'll shut up now.

NutellaWithEverything · 25/10/2023 08:14

@blueshoes I don't fully disagree but I don't want a short dress, I want it on/below the knee. I want it figure fitting but in a good quality fabric that doesn't cling on and accentuate lumps, and in a dark shade. I think with the right dress I will look bloody gorgeous.

Oh, I see many posters have already linked to the Phase Eight black dress.

NutellaWithEverything · 25/10/2023 11:37

Thanks!
I actually love the one with the zip, and it can double up as a cardigan!!

How about this - reduced to £100? I have it in navy and am bigger than you (size 14) and feel amazing in it with shapewear underneath and knee high tan boots!

Ignore the review, they are talking about the coral version but there is nothing see through with the navy and the material is lovely.

Edit: I know it isn’t technically button down or a neck (which I normally prefer myself) but it really is super flattering!

Sosandar has some great dresses.

Button down is the American term, button through is the British wording. Button down might have made it into use here, but if not, you might find more options by using button through. Add knee length to the search too.
