Sunscreen woes

I used to use Shiseido urban environment SPF50, it was perfect. Worked like a primer under make-up and was non-greasy. Then it got discontinued. So I tried and loved Ultra Violette Queen Screen, which also got discontinued. I’ve since tried Ultra Violette Fave Fluid, House of Joseone and Sheseido urban environment SPF30 and the fuckers give me awful spots plus the Fave Fluid pilled. Paula’s Choice moisturiser with SPF50 worked well but I don’t think we’re supposed to use 2-in-1 spf products anymore. The new standalone Paula’s Choice SPF50 apparently burns and pills. Please can someone recommend a good oil free SPF50? I wear it on top of tretinoin, azaleiac acid, hydroquinone and Sunday Riley rich Vit c moisturiser.

I think the main problem with joint moisturiser/SPF is just that people don't use enough to get the SPF coverage. If the Paula's Choice one works for you and you're using the full recommended amount I'd stick with that one.

You say you wear it on top of tret, are you putting that on in a morning?

Mumsanetta · 23/10/2023 15:30

Tbf I don’t think I wear enough of the PC to provide full protection. My husband uses it so I could try it again and see if I can tolerate using more.

I do sometimes use tret in the morning, which is why I’m so fanatical about sunscreen!

May I ask which hydroquinone you are using please?

No help on SPF I’m afraid as I’m still hunting for something too.

Finestreason · 23/10/2023 15:39

I’m looking as well. Following along. So tired of SPF that irritates.

Mumsanetta · 23/10/2023 17:29

@princessbear80 I use Dermatica and have a cream that’s 0.05 tret and 4% hydroquinone.

I like Thank You Farmer facial SPF but not sure if it’s oil free. Korean skincare is generally very good!

You shouldn't use Tretinoin during the day, it's a waste of effort, it degrades in the light so essentially does nothing.

I like Beauty of Joseon but think you've tried that one already. The new L'Oréal one is quite well liked, that might be worth a try.

Have you tried Etude House Sunprise Mild Airy Finish? It’s my fave at the moment.

Edit, the only western sunscreen I like is Australian Gold botanical face tinted, but I only like it for sport as it’s good on its own. Can be drying though.

So this morning I tried my DH’s Paula’s Choice moisturiser with SPF50 and it’s so
lovely on and works well under make-up. As the days are shorter now I think it will be fine even though it’s a 2in1 and I can always try and find a new sunscreen in spring.

La Roche possay

Fuckitydoodah · 24/10/2023 08:57

Have you tried La Roche Posay anthelios? I've tried others but always end up coming back to this.

Biore watery essence is great too, but not so easy to get hold of.
