Postpartum hair loss - help?

I’m shedding everywhere! It’s like living with a moulting Afghan hound.

Has anyone tried anything that has worked to minimise this? Products or techniques.

Baby is three months old and I’m not breastfeeding, if that makes any difference.

I’m suffering from hair loss due to medication and menopause so it may be different. I’m taking a supplement called Biotin as advised by nurse specialist and a hair set of products called Nioxin, it’s a shampoo, conditioner and a serum you leave in. Too early to tell if it’s working though. I feel fro you it’s crap.

Congratulaions on your baby and no doubt you’ll stop shedding soon.

Supplements and a healthy diet but mine is always awful, it's mostly hormonal sadly but low iron can contribute so make sure your iron levels are where they should be. The regrowth is even worse I find when you have an inch long short hair everywhere on your head. Strange phase of life.

Thanks - I’ll look this up!

@gemloving i had my iron levels tested about 2 months ago (baby is three months) so the GP will probably be reluctant to do it again… ha, yes, I do now remember the weird little fringe I got at the front last time!

It just gets EVERYWHERE. Reams of it falling out every time I brush.

Keep up with all your vitamins and give it a good brush a couple of times a day to get it all out! It's going to come out, might as well get it over with.

I hate the new hair stage. Sticking up all over the place like baby bird hair🙄😂
The things we have to go through!

I was breastfeeding but taking Spatone for my iron anaemia and using coconut oil 3-5 times a week helped my mane grow. By the time my DC was 8 months my mane regrew.

AngryBirdsNoMore · 23/10/2023 16:54

What did you do with coconut oil @RoseCurry?

I have had post partum after each of three births. In each case I lost a LOT of hair over a period of about 3 months starting at about 3 months post partum. Then it stops and eventually you notice regrowth and after a horrible year of growing out the regrowth you have normal hair again Confused

I remember thinking after my first pregnancy (which was fairly awful as it was twins!), that it wasn't pregnancy or birth or newborn baby tiredness that would put me off another baby; it was the hair loss and subsequent regrowth! I did do it again, twice more, but the hair thing was awful every time.

Hang on in there, it will resolve in time

I have really thick hair usually so it’s just feeling very thin and flat. But mostly I’m just sick of hair everywhere and no one being to blame but me - I can’t get annoyed at the cat even!
