Rome - next week - what to pack

I have no problems packing for summer beach holidays, or winter city breaks, just can’t do in between seasons.

For some reason I had got it into my head that it would be warm enough for nice tshirt and jeans and I had planned a weeks worth of those kind of outfits.

But no! 20 and rain! So now no idea what to pack.

I really wanted to give off a cultured sophisticated city look, not tubby tired middle aged mum, can anyone help suggest done ideas for that vibe in that weather?

Went in Mountain Warehouse to look at raincoats, I just can’t do that to myself! Can anyone suggest a better type of raincoat too.

Any help gratefully received!

Hi there - I was in Rome a few years' ago at this time of year. I packed a very light weight knee length khaki raincoat that was super simple (rather than sportswear). Then I layered up as it felt cooler than 20 degrees walking in the shade of the buildings. Took a big-ish bag (la pliage) and popped the raincoat through the handles when not wearing. And shoes/boots I could walk all day in. I'm jealous. It's such a wonderful city!

Your most comfortable shoes - you will walk miles! Personally, I'd take a brolly if it was raining. I'd get too hot and bothered with a hood if it was raining. I absolutely loved my week there earlier this year - I definitely want to go back, so much more to see. Despite the 30° heat! And definitely keep your wits about you with pickpockets and have a decent close to your body bag that you hold onto in crowds/stations- we had several attempts and I consider myself pretty vigilant but it's totally opportunistic and in one instance, right under police presence nose - we literally had to swat one or two away - tried to distract us when buying tickets in the underground and body block me front and back when getting on to the tube and tried to reach into my zipped rucksack.

Also taking my boys to Rome for half term week really looking forward to it 😍

Agree the rain is going to be a shame

I have just washed and tumbled our stuff I am taking for me:

2bras one black one white and usual handful of underwear!!

2 x jeans
2 x chinos
2 x skirts

2x white vests 2 x black vests
4x plain T-shirts
2x plain satin blouse
2x cardigans

2x v comfy trainers - my gazelles and my gym ones

And for coats I was just planning on taking a dusky rose blazer and my usual autumn coat (black attached)

It has a hood BUT is not really waterproof. It keeps my dry on the commute but will be no good for all day.

So I ordered a raincoat (pink attached)

Not a massive fan of the raincoat look either I feel your pain.

We are all sitting up looking at the lovely planet book right now and planning! 🎉🍕🍝🍻

What are your must visit bits?!

Have a brilliant time xxx
