Can I wear this as MOB?

Im quite a young mother of the bride - early 40’s and everything I look at seems very matronly.
I ordered this and it looks great on - I’d pair with a big pink hat and maybe a pink shawl/pashmina? May wedding so weather could go either way.
Im 6 foot tall and a size 14 if that helps.

The top and bottom of the dress look strangely mismatched to my eye and I agree with others who think the lacy top looks rather see through. If you love it, wear, but as it seems to have divided opinion here, other wedding guests may not admire it quite it as much as you’d like! At 6ft tall and well toned I’m sure you’ll look great in most things.

I love it and thinks it's miles better that all the standard mob stuff. Personally I wouldn't wear a hat but if you like hats go for it.

I clicked the Rixo MoB link with trepidation, but liked the dresses. I think the MoB term made think of something that QC would wear

It’s a nice shape, but bloody hell it’s busy - the top seems to be an entirely style to the bottom.

Busy outfits never look good in photos, so I’d find something a similar shape that shows off your shoulders but is simpler.

This also does look very cheap.

Whataretheodds · 21/10/2023 11:03

A cropped jacket would look much better than a pashmina which never stays where you want it unless you hold your arms in one position which is impossible if holding a glass of bubbles/canape/hugging and kissing

what Is the bride wearing? A pale coloured lace halterneck could look a bit too similar to the bride’s dress, depending on the style. If she’s wearing lace or a halter neck I would choose something different. I generally think a darker colour would be better for photos.

I like the dress but I am a big hater of hats in weddings. They ruin photos by blocking everyone behind you and I just think they look ridiculous. I wanted to ban them at my wedding. Fascinators are bad enough!

The top does look see through and like a cheap body suit from Asos. It would have been a beautiful dress if all the same fabric.

Rina66 · 21/10/2023 11:38

Ted Baker do a very similar style dress, I had this cherry blossom one for weddings a few years ago...they bring a similar style out every year.

I love the dress and think it’s great for a wedding.

Thanks for all the advice. Really appreciate the constructive responses.
I think I’m struggling to find my style since I’ve hit 40. For work wear I always go quite classic and smart but when it comes to dressy stuff I’m clueless. I guess I’m more into the boho vibe.
My daughter actually wants me to wear a big hat! She thinks I’ll rock it.
Sorry I really dislike those rixo dresses. Not me at all.
Wrap dresses don’t do anything for me as I’m quite hippy with a smaller waist - think a less exaggerated Kardashian!
I think I’ll keep looking.

@Rina66 that dress is beautiful but if it’s not from a tall range then the waist is often in the wrong place!

They actually don't have a proper waist, it's cinched in with a fabric tie belt in the same fabric so you can waist it wherever suits you best (once you've chopped off the pesky tiny loop things!).
I think you've done the hard part and identified the style you want and know what suits you, so if you're not 100% on your choice, keep looking and have fun shopping. Even look at that style dress in a maxi as it could be shortened to midi length.

Ah ok! Interesting. Off to browse.

I am 37 and I really like it and would wear it. I would put it with a blush pink hat and bag, not the pink from the skirt as I think that would be too much.
