Can I wear this as MOB?

Im quite a young mother of the bride - early 40’s and everything I look at seems very matronly.
I ordered this and it looks great on - I’d pair with a big pink hat and maybe a pink shawl/pashmina? May wedding so weather could go either way.
Im 6 foot tall and a size 14 if that helps.

Can I wear this as MOB?

I think it's beautiful :)

itsmeagainagain · 20/10/2023 20:03

I love it! intrigued to see what those who hate it would wear! probably the awful shift dress and matching jacket

KirstenBlest · 20/10/2023 20:04

I think you could get away with it if you aren't busty and have good arms and shoulders. Shawl might be a bit informal, blazer too officey. A pink velvet longer jacket maybe. (thinking Anthropology, Monsoon or East etc)

A friend wore something really not MoB-y for her DD's wedding and it was ok because it was her and she's lovely.

hey @KirstenBlest I was just messing but good link.... which one of them though??

bronkie · 20/10/2023 20:09

The lace top blue looks a different colour from the bottom blue. It looks a bit odd.

OMG I nearly died - I thought for a minute it was going to be Joanie again 😂

Rina66 · 20/10/2023 20:15

🤣🤣🤣 I think we've agreed no more moanie and the Joannie

KirstenBlest · 20/10/2023 20:16

@itsmeagainagain , it's a link always suggested for MoB threads.
It's not my taste, but there was a navy velvet edge of shoulder dress that I would wear.
I would not wear a wrap dress even at home alone.

@bronkie 😂

I like it, OP - it's unusual and I think a halterneck often suits tall women,.don't know why.

KirstenBlest · 20/10/2023 20:26

I can see the coat in my mind but can't find anything that looks like it.
Something semi-formal looking in length and shape but a very soft crushed velvet or fabric.

NatashaDancing · 20/10/2023 20:27

KirstenBlest · 20/10/2023 20:05

Nothing from anywhere that describes itself as "Mother of the Bride".

I like the shape of this dress. Long halter necks dresses look good on tall women. I agree with others that the top and the skirt don't quite look right.

You could wear it with a fuchsia coloured wide brim hat. If you are 6 foot and a size 14 almost anything will look good on you. I'm envious.

KirstenBlest · 20/10/2023 20:36

The kimono is the nearest, @NatashaDancing .

As for my bombshell reply, was in reply to @itsmeagainagain . OP said

MaggieFS · 20/10/2023 20:37

As long as you have the arms, shoulders and neck for it. Go for it.

caringcarer · 20/10/2023 20:39

I just looked at that jacket in fuchsia in velvet. It's gorgeous but pricey. Would you wear it again OP? I don't mind paying a bit extra if I think I'll wear it several times.

Yes of course because everyone with a different opinion would wear the EXACT same thing….🙄

alrighthen · 20/10/2023 20:43

This is beautiful! Lovely outfit choice.

P.s I read MOB as ‘men in black’

KirstenBlest · 20/10/2023 20:52

I'd be looking at something like Alice Temperley dresses meets Plumo, not MoB.

The bombshell stuff reminds me of Princesses Bea & Sophie, or Nigella and they'd look fine in it. I wouldn't.

KirstenBlest · 20/10/2023 20:54

@Rina66 ,there was no need for that comment.

Bellabluea · 20/10/2023 20:56

Thanks all!
I weight train so I love my shoulders and arms! I’m peri menopausal so tend to bloat and I like that it’s floaty. It’s very me. I may look for a pale blue hat with pink accent.
I’ll have a look for velvet jackets.

@Nishky32 sorry I take it back that was a bit harsh!

Rina66 · 20/10/2023 20:58

@KirstenBlest sorry, I don't understand? I thought we had all agreed to not moan about Joanie anymore?
