Jeans for husband - big bum

DH is a nightmare to buy presents for, as he can never find anything he wants. Anyway, he has asked me to find him some jeans as a present.

The problem is he has a 36" waist but has a 'Maltese bum' - he's half Maltese and has explained many times that this means his bum is disproportionately large. He is disabled and doesn't get out much. So the requirements are

36" waist
big bum
can be returned easily if they don't fit

not too spendy (he won't wear anything he thinks is too extravagant!)

My DH buys all his jeans from Tribal society they have great customer service with easy returns. Also if your jeans don’t fit they amend them and they have a 1 year guarantee on all denim.

apparently a roomier cut on bum and thigh is called "athletic fit"? who knew!

Presumably for muscly legs e.g. sprinters rather than long distance runners?

Rugby player here with big thighs and arse, but a small waist. You need an athletic fit, and would likely benefit from stretch to aid mobility. Arket are good as are wrangler athletic stretch.

Tribal is £120 a pair, I'd call that spendy

I am not a man and don't have a big bum, but I do have quite athletic thighs. When I was a bit thinner and needed a smaller waist and hips i used to just buy a bigger size to fit my thighs and then get them altered to fit. It was quite easy to take them in up the back seam. Could that work?

He thinks it's 31" inside leg. Anyway, thank you to all those who have informed me so far! I will look for athletic fit and see if I can find anything. I think he would baulk at £120, yes x

DH and DS1 are large across the bum ( although not sticky-out) and Sainsbury's Tu range has come up trumps a few times for them.

Ad woman with 44 inch hips I can fit comfortably into mens 36-38 atheltic jeans in most brands even when they don’t go high enough in their womens ranges. So it should be okay for your DH.
