I think I like the Barbour one the best. It has a hood and no fake fur. They might look nice now, but tend to get ratty over time.

NatashaDancing · 19/10/2023 21:05

The Ralph Lauren. I like fake fur.

Bestdayever19 · 19/10/2023 21:14

I prefer the Barbour

JadeMoss · 19/10/2023 21:15

I also like this because from the video it seems to have a nice shape: https://www.marmot.com/women/jackets-and-vests/insulated-and-down/womens-chelsea-coat/AFS_889169666261.html

The Marmot seems to be in stock only in grey, amd I domt thinknit’s a very attractive shade…my order of preference is Holland Cooper, Barbour, Ralph Lauren

JadeMoss · 19/10/2023 21:19

@Heyhoherewegoagain I’ve actually found black on another website but you need to sign up etc

I like the Ralph Lauren one.

Toomanyclothesinmywardrobe · 19/10/2023 21:50

The Ralph Lauren - they are great quality. I have an RLsport puffa which is still going strong after 10 years and is super cosy. I’ve had a Barbour jacket before but rarely used it as it was nowhere near as nice.

The black and khaki/ olive versions are ok. The other colours, including the grey, aren't.

I'd put the others in order of RL , Barbour and a "no" to HC because of the logos.

Goodness just seen the price of the Marmot- I assumed by the look of it , it was under £50, but it's the same price range as the other 3.

mathanxiety · 20/10/2023 02:14

The RL coat is down-filled and would be a good deal warmer than either of the others.

It would be a choice between the Barbour or the RL for me. I think I'd go for the RL because of the down filling. The Barbour is polyester filled.

The RL hood detaches, fwiw.

mathanxiety · 20/10/2023 02:15

I'm not keen on the Marmot coat at all.

sweetiepie1979 · 20/10/2023 02:29

The fake fur cheapens the Ralph lauren coat so go for the Barbour x

Mummyoflittledragon · 20/10/2023 04:02

I don’t like the Marmot one. It looks cheap. My preference is the Holland and Cooper then the RL. Not keen on the Barbour.

I get you’d rather the fake fur trim was detachable on the RL. They do tend to matt, especially when washed. I use a hairbrush on them gently once dry, which works well.

KirstenBlest · 20/10/2023 06:39

None of them. The Barbour one is OK but only OK.
The teddy lining of the RL cheapens it even if you detached the collar.
HC - looks cheap
Marmot - OK-ish but looks like an anorak

JadeMoss · 20/10/2023 07:27

With the RL something that does concern me is that I have a down coat which has small holes in it (no idea how) and this seems to be an issue with down as I’ve seen some stuff online about how to repair down.

If anyone had any suggestions for similar coats ie ones that look somewhat smartish for a coat of this type, are knee length or slightly above knee and look warm without being really chunky please do share.

That one is great apart from the fake fur and the gilt poppers and zip. They make it look cheap, wheras the quality is probably good.
