What do you do to get rid of chin hairs?!

I’m at the age for delightful chin hairs sprouting. At first it was a couple so i just used tweezers but now there are more. I can’t always see them at home and then will have a look in car mirror as about to go to work and be like omg!😄Alot of it is fair & fluffy but then there will be a few darker ones too.
I’m thinking of booking a chin wax but am wondering will they grow back worse?
I asked the lady who was waxing my eyebrows and she recommended electrolysis but it’s expensive and also she said can take a while to see results.
I’m feeling a bit self conscious of it now so would like to do something but not sure of the best thing.
Can anyone vouch for waxing?

I’ve just this minute taken out about 50 of the buggers, I do it once a month.also looking for suggestions!

Aworldofmyown · 18/10/2023 10:20

I pluck the thick ones and use a dermaplane tool for the fluffy ones.

TodayForTomorrow · 18/10/2023 10:23

I guess the problem with waxing is that you need the hairs to be a fair length so that the wax can grip something.

What about dermaplaning? I confess to the odd shave now and then.

Tweezers

I do this too.

Tweezers for the big, thick black buggers (thanks PCOS!) and then I get my top lip, chin and jaw line threaded every 4 weeks or so.

I’ve always been hairy (again thanks PCOS), but I never used to get the big thick ones. Now that I am 42 I have 4 “regulars” that have appeared on my jaw line/chin so I know to check for them. I swear they appear overnight sometimes - nothing at all one day and the next there’s 3 or 4mm sticking out 🤬

bobbitybobbitybob · 18/10/2023 10:29

Tweezers and I keep a pair in the car as I always seem to notice them when I'm driving and randomly stroking my chin!

RudsyFarmer · 18/10/2023 10:29

I’m of the age but don’t have them. I do have a fear im missing them though so I should go and have a really good look. I’m sort of hoping HRT is mitigating this joy.

WhichOfThePickwickTripletsDidIt · 18/10/2023 10:31

I pluck. Rubis tweezers ftw.

I’ve tried electrolysis in the past but it was hopelessly slow, expensive and made no discernible difference.

Prescription Vaniqa cream also worked for me some years ago, but it did make my skin break out a bit. I gave it up while pregnant because the hairs stopped coming and for a few years after that I didn’t have many at all. Now I’m older, they’re back with a vengeance but I’m not inclined to use Vaniqa again. It’s not something every GP will prescribe (which seems fair enough) and it’s expensive to buy from an online prescription service.

Also, even though I get bored of plucking I sort of don’t want to use it — maybe because I now have HRT and other stuff to keep on top of, so a cosmetic-reasons-only prescription cream seems like faff I can live without.

I have one of those light-up magnifying mirrors, and a good set of tweezers. It's almost a hobby. It's not pretty if I miss a day 🤣

thinkofanewusername · 18/10/2023 10:32

I've discovered Veet wax strips. Quick, easy and effective, and then tweezers for the few that are missed.

MsFogi · 18/10/2023 10:33

I have one of these and use it every morning and evening (along with tweezing the big buggers).

McQueensMuse · 18/10/2023 10:34

I get rid of the thick wiry ones with this springy thing, I'll post the amazon link in a bit.
Then dermaplane the rest.

I love you 😄

EfficientlyDecluttering · 18/10/2023 10:36

I use one of the springy things too, was about a pound on Amazon. then tweezers for any that evade the spring. It is ouchy though.

LubaLuca · 18/10/2023 10:36

I have one coarse, black chin hair that reappears about once a month. I enjoy plucking it and then examining it - I have a white keyboard that I put it on the side of so I can look at it repeatedly.

I have a lot of fluffy blonde chin hairs too that I'm keen to police. Does dermaplaning make those downy hairs feel sharp/rough when they grow back?

CobwebsAndCauldrons · 18/10/2023 10:41

Does dermaplaning make those downy hairs feel sharp/rough when they grow back?

Nope. In my experience, they are gone and then, almost suddenly, about 3 weeks later they are back again with no sign of them being any different, no stubble as they grow etc. Just 'not there' back to 'there'.

MangoAF · 18/10/2023 10:45

Has anyone got a dermaplane they can recommend?
I’ve got a crop now sort of under my double chin. They are very hard to see, I wax with veer once a week then pluck out any leftover black ones on my actual chin line. I’m interested in dermaplaning but does it only work for fluff? The ones under my chin are definitely not fluff but not quite the thick black spider legs either

rocknrollaa · 18/10/2023 10:49

It's a myth that anything 'grows back worse'. Some people think this because when you've pulled out a hair and it's just sprouting again, it feels a bit sharper because it's shorter than it was before. That's all it is.

I just use one of those little face shaver things to get rid of mine, or pluck them out.

MrsFionaCharming · 18/10/2023 11:06

I’m currently having electrolysis on mine. I’ve had 2 sessions, £8 per session, and the therapist thinks I’ll need 4 sessions before I see a difference. But she also said it only works well on the thick dark ones, so I’m still plucking out the fluffy ones.

FrontEnd · 18/10/2023 11:13

The spring thing is horrendously painful for me (and I take pleasure from waxing so not generally low threshold). Done electrolysis in the past with very good salon and it left tiny scars visible if I tan, also not permanent solution. Can recommend buying mini hot wax melter, wax specially for sensitive skin areas and wood wax spatulas. Heat up, slap it on, wait 30s to dry hard then whip it off. Lovely 😁

cornflakesandtea · 18/10/2023 11:44

I don't find waxing that good to be honest. I find some of the thicker hairs seem to anchor themselves in more than they should and the wax just doesn't work!
I just have loads of tweezers (the Boots precision grip slanted tweezers) and keep them everywhere. One in the car, one downstairs, one upstairs, one in my bag etc. I actually love tweezing, I find it therapeutic. I don't even use a mirror most of the time.

Same. I also give the skin a zapping with my home IPL to try to inhibit the regrowth. It’s not as effective as it is on other hair but it does seem to slow it a little.

HorribleHisTories15 · 18/10/2023 11:56

'I don't even use a mirror most of the time.' Are you that professional @cornflakesandtea ? Respect!

Bobtheamazinggingerdog · 18/10/2023 11:57

I use a springy thing. I think it's called a threading tool on eBay.
