What do you do to get rid of chin hairs?!

Littlemiss74 · 18/10/2023 10:18

I’m at the age for delightful chin hairs sprouting. At first it was a couple so i just used tweezers but now there are more. I can’t always see them at home and then will have a look in car mirror as about to go to work and be like omg!😄Alot of it is fair & fluffy but then there will be a few darker ones too.
I’m thinking of booking a chin wax but am wondering will they grow back worse?
I asked the lady who was waxing my eyebrows and she recommended electrolysis but it’s expensive and also she said can take a while to see results.
I’m feeling a bit self conscious of it now so would like to do something but not sure of the best thing.
Can anyone vouch for waxing?

Currently my approach is to not look too closely!

I love you 😄

I balance a x 12 magnifying mirror on a very very bright lamp with no shade,
x 3 magnifying glasses and go at it every morning with tweezers. Sigh. Electrolysis didn’t work. This is it for life or terrible injuries

I shave. But I don't have one or two to deal with, it's a whole neck/ jawline situation.
Awful. It really upsets me and I know it's very noticeable by the end of the day but I don't know what I can do.

Braun face epilator for chin and upper lip (steam first and ointment after for lip, it hurts!) but I have a couple of thick hard to pluck chin ones that appear and I can't wait until they're long enough to epilate so get my magnifying mirror and tweezers - they take some dislodging! I also like to examine them, I don't know why?! I do notice a direct correlation between eating junk food and them popping up, though I don't know if that's a me thing; I think my hormones are particularly sensitive to sugar.

If you can afford a decent IPL like a lumea maybe on black Friday I would do that

I had the same. Daily shaving, wore scarves a lot.

The problem is not resolved but about 80% better. My 'beard' is patchy now and the hairs I do have are finer and cover a smaller area.

I reckon one more winter of zapping and I'll be happy

I've been using one of these, they really are painless and so easy to use.

@PinkRoses1245 I recently bought the ffs one, I didn't like the throwaway nature of the ones I bought before.
I do sometimes use the threader tool but find if your not at the exact right angle it's doesn't work, that can be tricky in awkward places.

I am currently having laser hair removal on my upper lip and chin and it has been amazing.

I had my 6th of 8 sessions yesterday and I am now barely getting any regrowth in between sessions (8 weeks or so). Wish Id started it earlier as I was at the stage of needing to use hair removal cream every couple of weeks.

WhatFlavourIsIt · 18/10/2023 15:00

I get mine threaded about every 3 weeks. In between, I tweeze. Sometimes, I can just pull them out with my nails. I don't know why, but I find it really satisfying when I actually get it & kinda put it to my lip to marvel at how course & sharp it is

LostThestral · 18/10/2023 15:01

I use one of those JML Flawless little shavers - works well

CaveMum · 18/10/2023 15:06

Is now the time to mention nipple hairs that appear overnight? I mean I shower daily do how come I go from “nothing to see” to “2 inch black tentacle” in 24 hours?!

Wednesdaysotherchild · 18/10/2023 15:10

I’ve had mine since I was a teen! I have always plucked with tweezers, a good mirror and light.

I have one of those light-up magnifying mirrors, and a good set of tweezers. It's almost a hobby. It's not pretty if I miss a day 🤣

Same!

floofbag · 18/10/2023 15:12

I pluck them , I do it daily so they don't stick out . I'd be mortified if someone saw one on me . Ugly little feckers !

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 18/10/2023 15:16

What the hell is it about car mirrors??! I've been frightenend half to death by looking in my car mirror a few times. I avoid it now. I use a magnified mirror with bright light and go at them with tweezers. I've got a lot more 'fuzz' now than I ever did but am holding off on doing anything more than tweezers I'm just not mentally ready for it yet...

EmmaStone · 18/10/2023 15:28

Can I ask for opinions on threading vs the springy tools?

And am I being dim, or is Dermaplaning a posh name for shaving?

2023shady · 18/10/2023 15:42

I use the FFS dermaplane and then pluck any wiry ones

fetchacloth · 18/10/2023 13:40

HRT doesn't mitigate this joy 😒🙄

Oh 🥴😡. Why the hell doesn’t it? Surely it’s caused by an imbalance of oestrogen otherwise we’d have chin hairs in our twenties and thirties.

Unfortunately I have PCOS so I have suffered with chin hairs since my mid twenties😧.
Like you, I was hopeful that once menopause had kicked in and HRT began, the chin hairs would bugger off, but actually they're worse.🙄

I’m currently having electrolysis on mine. I’ve had 2 sessions, £8 per session, and the therapist thinks I’ll need 4 sessions before I see a difference. But she also said it only works well on the thick dark ones, so I’m still plucking out the fluffy ones.

I was told that around 2003.

She lied. No difference whatsoever. Except more came.

Waxing is the least painful and gentlest on the skin apart from using a good (ie, marketed at men, not women) rotary shaver.

swirlingabyss · 18/10/2023 16:39

they are caused by an excess of androgens (male hormones) which is probably why hrt (estrogen / progesterone) won't cure it. You need things that balance male hormone levels e.g spearmint tea, omega 3, liquorice etc.

Deathraystare · 18/10/2023 16:47

Bic razors. Yep it has come to that. Any cream does not work, makes the skin sore and I still see the hairs staring back at me! Tried wax but get pimples afterwards and I don't think any machine works on white hair. I have a moustache and beard either side of my chin.

Why is the hair there so strong, whilst the hair on my head 'snaps'.

Creepyrosemary · 18/10/2023 16:51

I pluck what I can see (middle aged eyes) and shave once a week for what I might not see.

trulyunruly01 · 18/10/2023 16:58

Well I always think 'am I ever going to give up having a shower?'
The answer is no (not until it doesn't matter anymore). So I use a very moisturising shower gel and run a 5 blade Venus with moisturising strip over my chin every couple of days whilst in the shower.
