Disaster highlights — how to fix?

I have very dark brown (almost black) hair. I asked for highlights. I very explicitly said I didn’t want it too light — I just want something to add some texture/movement to my hair so it doesn’t look totally flat.

colourist made them way too light and I look terrible. The highlights are a very ashy / blondish weird mess. She added toner which helped a bit but not enough.

what could I reasonably ask for (from a competent colourist this time) so that I tone these down A LOT or get a more natural colour back? Without totally destroying my hair. Or are there some low risk solutions I could do at home? I’ve never done my hair myself and I’m useless with style/beauty so it would really need to be something idiot proof.

thanks!

Hi. I would ask for a colour melt

There is a tutorial on YouTube on how to use them
