What do I need to ask my hairdresser for to get this?

I'm due to get my hair coloured again and I want the base of my hair to be a dark blonde with lots of highlights- I do tend to like the stripy look with obvious highlights!

My hairdresser makes my hair look quite natural and I just don't like it as it tends to look like one colour with barely visible highlights. It's currently light blonde with a balayage/root stretch.

What do I ask my hairdresser for? I don't want a balayage again as it's just too expensive and seems too subtle (£200). I was thinking I ask for my hair to first be coloured in the dark blonde and then a full head of lighter highlights.

Am I right or is this stupid!?

The photo is like my hair and it’s balayage. Just ask your hairdresser to do a root stretch in the darker blonde that you prefer then do darker blonde foils to break up the natural look you already have? I wouldn’t have a full head of dark blonde then a full head of highlights.

I think my hair is too light to have darker blonde highlights - I think it needs to be the other way round.

Ah, I understand now, I see what you mean. Your hairdresser should have colour charts for you to choose the colours you’d like. I change mine with the seasons to a darker blonde in winter and a lighter in summer.

Yes she does have these - do I ask for two colours? One base then the highlights? 😬

I have a few grey hairs and have my roots done in darker blonde. It’s difficult to explain but my hairdresser back combs some of my roots and then puts foils with bleach. He puts a toner on after the bleach. It’s not fine highlights he does where they take tiny sections of hair and he puts the root colour on the hair between the foils of that makes sense.

Yes that makes perfect sense - I think that's what mine did with my roots for the root stretch.

My hairdresser does do the fine highlights with tiny bits of hair - maybe that's why I'm not noticing them!

I hope a hairdresser can come long soon and advise you, it took me years to find a hairdresser who actually did what I wanted. This is going to sound pathetic but I printed a photo out of what I wanted instead of showing them on a phone and propped it up in front of the mirror. I was so fed up of not getting what I paid for.

Exactly how I feel. I like my hairdresser and feel comfortable with her so I just settle. I'm scared to go to another as I'm very anxious and shy. (And I hate the small talk!)

Last time she did my hair she said oh you love it don't you!! When really I wanted to cry about the £200 i'd just spent on a very basic 'balayage' that looked like one colour!

Just show the hairdresser the picture 🤷🏻‍♀️

I suggest you get a new/better hairdresser in that case
