Vinted rant

I know, I know. But people are so ridiculous with their offers.

I’m currently selling two bags. £35 each. They are both in great condition. The amount of just £20? Messages is driving me mad. The same bags are up for £50+ by other sellers so mine are already a steal.

One person messaged me £15? And when I said no just kept sending more offers going up by £1-£2 each time. Even after I said ‘no, thank you for the offers, but the price is the price!’ I probably would have sold at £30 if it came in as one offer but I haven’t got the patience for 15 £1 increasing messages 🙄

I send offers but the most I ever knock off is £5 and that’s if it’s priced high. If I think it’s over priced, I favourite it and keep an eye on the price, if it drops it drops.

I don’t know why I do it to myself. I stopped selling about 6 months ago because of this but forgot how tedious it was and now it’s all come back to me why I gave it up!!

It's a buyer's market on there for sure.

Plumful · 18/10/2023 06:09

What is the brand?

ZolaBudd · 18/10/2023 06:12

Just ignore the messages

AnxiousPangolin · 18/10/2023 06:28

I block people who offer £1 more each time while ignoring my repeated posting of the price I will accept.

MerryChristmasToYou · 18/10/2023 06:47

I've had that selling on ebay. I put an automatic decline on the item. can you do that on Vinted?

I don’t think you can, sadly. I would love a feature which auto declines stupid offers.

MerryChristmasToYou · 18/10/2023 07:22

@AnxiousPangolin , I prefer it if the offer has a note with it.
e.g. Would you accept £12 for it. I'd be more willing to negotiate.
The £11.99 offer on an item listed at £24.99 just makes me think 'F off'

I don’t think it makes a difference, tbh. Someone did message to say they really wanted the item but could only afford to pay a third of what I was asking. That’s still a no from me.

MerryChristmasToYou · 18/10/2023 09:03

Oh, me too. If there's a sob story they can forget it.

Tremblingmadness · 18/10/2023 09:35

I really empathise with the point you are making but assume they are just messages and not formal offers.

As I understand it the biggest offer reduction you can request on Vinted is 40% on list price. So if they tried to offer less than £28 (£35 x 60%) Vinted shouldn’t even send you the offer.

The offers of £15, £20 etc shouldn’t be reaching you unless they are not formal offers, but just some chancer sending you a message.

I only ever glance at messages like that and never reply. They are pretty pointless because Vinted wouldn’t process them without you having to go through the whole rigmarole of editing your listing to bring your price low enough to accommodate their offer under the 40% rule.

But don't get me started on the idiots who ask for loads of extra pictures, measurements etc. and then message me to say they really need the item so will I drop from £50 to £10. Being a chancer is one thing, wasting my time sorting out the additional info just adds a whole extra level of frustration.

You might have the bags priced too highly and doubt anyone would pay £50 for second hand bags, tbh, people on Vinted are bargain hunters

SatsumaNightmare · 18/10/2023 11:45

Block them. I can’t be assed. I used vinted loads for both buying and selling but some people are absolutely taking the piss. I get petty about it too sometimes, but it’s not like I’m selling items for hundreds and hundreds so if someone is being rude and cheeky, I’d rather block them and keep or donate the item than let them have it!

BlueSky2023 · 18/10/2023 12:00

Never used Vinted but surely if you wanted 35 you would list it for 45/50?
that might stop people making such low offers

MerryChristmasToYou · 18/10/2023 12:34

@BlueSky2023 , I put them on at the price I want for them. If I go on Vinted or ebay, I'll be looking for something specific and probably be willing to pay decent money for it.
