Jeans: need help

All the jeans I have are skinny style. I want to look more modern but not sure where to look? And I used to wear black chunky boots that fit over the skinnies before: what shoes do you wear with the new type?

I wear loafers with full length straight jeans, or tuck my jeans into flat biker-style boots,

How do you tuck straight legged jeans into biker boots though? Surely they're not skinny enough? (I've just bought straight legged jeans and new ankle boots and am having the same dilemma).
