Best normal nail polish?

After months of having BIAB my nails were ruined by it and have only just recovered.

I really miss my nails looking nice and want to get better at doing my own, just with normal polish (not gel), but I always find it chips after a couple of days.

Can anyone recommend any polishes or base and top coats that are really durable?

I love OPI - I'm not brilliant at applying my own however. These are my nails in that colour but put on by someone else. I've found it can go a week without chipping. xx

Essie

BatshitCrazyWoman · 15/10/2023 15:00

I use Essie base coat, and Essie Good to Go quick drying top coat, with either Essie or OPI polish, or my new favourite brand, Zoya. I can get a week out of my nails.

StormzyintheSW · 15/10/2023 15:00

The best polish I've ever used is M&S! Surprisingly!

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 15/10/2023 15:03

I hate the OPI base coats.

Essie is usually good (and sometimes brilliant) but there are a few misses ime. But it is still my go to.

I’m an Essie fan. I have many, many of their nudes. This is 4 days old and applied in a mad rush, but it lasts on me for over a week. Or more, I just get nail growth that makes me re-do.

I hate Essie so I guess it's just a matter of trying a few

CambridgeLass · 15/10/2023 15:27

OPI, Essie or Orly.

luckylavender · 15/10/2023 15:32

Essie.

Lndnmummy · 15/10/2023 15:40

Essie never lasts on me. CND vinylux or sally hansen for me.

Redwinestillfine · 15/10/2023 15:56

London Grace and Eddie here. Also benefit of being less toxic than some of the other brands

CharlotteStreetW1 · 15/10/2023 16:01

This combo. Base coat, 2 coats of varnish then top coat.

Lasts a week and I'm a secretary so lots of typing.

Parakeetamol · 15/10/2023 16:04

I have never had one that last longer than an hour no matter how it is applied. I think I'm just too hands on with everything and not dainty enough.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 15/10/2023 16:06

Doh!

CharlotteStreetW1 · 15/10/2023 16:07

Barry M and Rimmel 60 Seconds are surprisingly good for the price. I use Essie too but it doesn't last any longer on me. I generally do my nails on Sundays and then again mid-week although the shorter I keep them, the less the polish chips.

UndercoverCop · 15/10/2023 16:20

Essie gel couture lasts ages on me, (it's not actually gel and doesn't damage your nails) ,I use Essie base coat with the green label, Essie gel couture polish - 2 coats and then the essie gel couture top coat, I think it's this last bit that makes the difference, it's in a white slightly twisted looking bottle. Amazon address usually cheaper than boots

Work2live · 15/10/2023 17:18

Some great recommendations here thank you all!

I’ve never actually used Essie before so might order one to try. I’m really craving some gorgeous autumn neutrals!

I've found Rimmel never probably dries and you can put a finger print in it long after it should have dried

I also like Essie but as with all brands there are some hits and misses.

BeretRaspberry · 15/10/2023 21:34

I love Nailberry and Jessica. This is Nailberry.

Same. Specifically the Autograph all in one nail colour.

This is what I do as well. I swear by seche vite top coat.

Back21970 · 15/10/2023 23:40

Maybelline and Rimmel 60 second are the best ones I’ve tried.

Always been a bit disappointed when I have splashed out on the more expensive brands like Opi and Essie. Recall a Chanel one was particularly bad.

Tempted to try the M&S Autograph.

evilharpy · 15/10/2023 23:47

I always have gel on my fingers but I have normal polish on my toes. I use cheap and cheerful W7 base and top coat and Rimmel 60 seconds or Barry M colour (2 coats). Plus Jessica quick dry drops. It doesn't chip at all and lasts till I take it off which is usually about two weeks, sometimes more. I prep in the same way as I do fingers - all cuticle removed from the nail plate and pushed back and trimmed where needed, filed and shaped nicely, cleansed with IPA to remove any oils etc.

I really don't like Nails Inc, I find it very thin.
