Cool alternative to Jeans

misshappycat · 12/10/2023 08:22

Has anyone found a comfortable (yet not frumpy) alternative to jeans? For those days when you’re feeling a bit bleurgh due to bloating, but you’re resistant to full jogging bottoms mode? Tried these https://lucyandyak.com/products/alexa-organic-cotton-trousers-in-black-new-fit?variant=39397748801639&currency=GBP&istCompanyId=dcc139a6-53e9-4b17-a0c2-b8ccc374bc87&istFeedId=7171bd12-5f0c-4560-84c9-f51392775295&istItemId=rtmwtqtml&istBid=t&gclid=Cj0KCQjwsp6pBhCfARIsAD3GZubNMZzRPLVlaAkZ6jiAa5rki1aO_ZCQYV3S79ekyskt8VCAE5Kq1MaAhzJEALw_wcB but felt they were a bit tentish. Any ideas?

Another difficulty is that I’m tall and also struggle to find trousers that go up past my hips - most end up in a hipster style. Muffin top is not something I want to bring back.

Thanks all!

Cords with an elasticated waist? Uniqlo usually have a good range. Maybe Cos too. Or Toast if you have a bigger budget.

iwantavuvezela · 12/10/2023 08:34

Muji has some great (elasticated at top ) cords

If you are happy spending £££ Me & Em do excellent trousers. I tend to buy mine in the Sale as I generally can't afford their prices. Vg for the slightly taller (I'm 5'9").

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 12/10/2023 08:40

Marks and Spencer wide legs, smarter than joggers but just as comfy.

Nannyfannybanny · 12/10/2023 08:46

That's interesting you say another problem is you are tall,I say this as 5ft 2in. I look ridiculous in anything other than skinny, I have just bought the M&S cotton rich joggers,in the burgundy colour. Size 10 in all their clothes and all other makes, but they are not generous, but the 12 slips down at the waist, the reviews say true to size, mine disagreed.

Gowlett · 12/10/2023 09:24

i got some khaki parachute pants recently. They’re very comfy, but more for indoors. It’s definitely a case of “does my bum look big in this?” Chinos, black or navy, are smarter.

KirstenBlest · 12/10/2023 09:28

Chinos, the M&S joggers, combats, smart but stretchy trousers. (e.g. Robell), wide leg jersey pants.
It depends on your definition of tall, but M&S has revised its lengths, with the Short now being for average height women (about 5'3" - 5'4").

Stretch trousers from Niche are super comfy or magic trousers.

Just bought these, comfy, look good, they have a slightly heavy weight to them too which makes them perfect for A/W.

These

I applaud anyone who can look good in high-waisted cream trousers. My arse would be visible from space.

Magic pants!!! I got some in an independent clothes shop & just googled and found this site. I fully empathise, I struggle with bloating so I really need a stretchy waist but I also like it to be quite fitted on my bum and I don't really like extra baggy pants. They're smart but comfy. Can't go wrong with soft black leggings too although that veers too much into jogging bottoms territory I guess.

@MissLucyEyelesbarrow , I'd look horrific in those cream wide trousers. I'm not particularly big of arse of hips but they'd widen my narrowest part. Add a breton stripe top and I'd look like a clown.

SoShallINever · 12/10/2023 16:40

Those "magic pants" look really uncomfortable to me.
M and S wide leg stretchy trousers are soft, wash brilliantly, comfy enough for lounging around and still smart enough to wear with z jacket. Love them .

Looks are very deceiving. I'm 8 months pregnant and I'm still wearing the same pair as pre pregnancy comfortably! I pull them to a comfortable bump level and hide the waistband area with my top. The ones I have kind of look like jeans but oh my the stretch in them is amazing.

Tesco have some relaxed joggers with turn ups at the moment. They've got a couple of pleats on the waistband and they are a nice weighty autumn/ winter weight fabric. They had similar last year and I bought a few in various checked patterns and was browsing to see if they had them again this year. They look great with boots or brogues.

Lovemusic82 · 12/10/2023 17:27

I bought a couple pairs of Lucy and yak Alexas last month and I have lived in them ever since. I had to go down a size as they came up really big (I’m a size 12 and am wearing a Small). I also bought some Lucy and yak Camden’s on vinted (I don’t think they make them anymore) and they are extremely comfortable and a bit more smart than the Alexas.

Saint and Sofia apartment pants are my go to

No no not the cream, I got the black obviously!!! Haha I think when I linked them just came up with cream. No way would I get away with cream!

Whataretheodds · 12/10/2023 18:12

Judging by the way trends are going, silk or tencel type cargo pants (cuffed ankle or not) are going to be the fashionable comfy trousers du jour

weirdoboelady · 12/10/2023 19:38

Lucy and Yak dungarees. All the way.

duchiebun · 12/10/2023 20:03

Not sure why people are anti joggers, they can look a lot “cooler” then some of the other suggestions
