Why do M&S like to make life difficult?

I went clothes shopping yesterday to a real shop for probably the first time since covid.

I know from buying online that M&S black jeans in 14 Long fit me pretty well so I didn't bother trying on (my mistake). I hate clothes shopping so it's a get it over with asap chore.

I bought 2 pairs of black jeans in slightly different styles. Came home and tried them on. They do indeed fit but I cannot believe the difference in the leg length - both are just described as "long". They are the same depth from waist band to crotch but one pair is a good 4 cm or more longer than the other!

Why do M&S like to make life difficult?

It's ridiculous that shops do this. I think it would be better to change women's clothes measurements to waist and keg length in inches, like men's clothes.

Is one supposed to sit higher on your waistline than the other? If not, that's ridiculous and I'd expect better from M&S.

Crazy isn’t it! I own the M&S wide leg jeans in three different colours but need the regular length in one pair and short in the others! I’d like to get another colour (I wear them a lot) but I don’t know which length will fit.

If one was described as boot cut and one ankle grazer, I suppose I would get it.
But m&s and their lengths has gone so off for me of late I know I can't buy from there without trying. Short no longer means short sadly.

M&S sizing has been inconsistent for years, if not decades. It's nothing new. Their quality control is abysmal. It's not just different styles/ranges etc. I remember years ago buying two pairs of jeans from the same range, same size, just different colours - like the OP, the leg length was very different, as was the leg width too! They don't seem to even try to be consistent with sizing. Their returns must be massive!

I went to a big M&S last weekend to find some 'first bras' for my 12 yo DD.
In their first bra 'Angel' (?) range they only had padded bras in a crap range of sizes.
What's that all about?
I asked the sales assistant why they had to be padded - she kept wittering on about 'discretion' and 'temperature' and how they weren't padded but thickly moulded.
Anyway I had measured my DD - 28 inches band round chest. So got their manky padded bras in 28s and 30s, various cups. None of them fitted.

You did well to find jeans in two different sizes, tbf. In my local M&S they have piles of jeans in just one single size.

Yes the padding is for comfort young girls nipples are really sensitive. My dd hated it when I bought her her first non padded bra. Also she said she didn't like her nipples showing. I think around puberty their nipples can go erect randomly so she preferred the soft padding.
Now she is much older and wears all manner of Lacey things

As a young teen I definitely preferred a bit of cushioning tbh

You can't rely on their jeans. I once bought two of the same pair in different colours. One was about an inch too big around the waist. The other was too long.i think they get labels muddled up. Quality control is terrible. You need to take 3 pairs into a changing room and find the best!

They also shrink in tge wash. - it I'm getting fatter...
