Packable/foldable dress for functions

Hi
I sometimes have to attend smart dinners for work when I travel.

I have a dress I always take that travels really well, is super flattering and doesn’t need ironing but I feel like I wear it every time I have a similar dinner and it is quite distinctive.

Can anyone recommend a smart, flattering, supremely packable dress for an average height size 10 hippy somewhere between pear and hourglass?

thank you

How formal are you talking? Would you prefer a plainer dress you can add different necklaces to or a stand out one? Budget?

FayCarew · 11/10/2023 13:37

Try Cefinn, Sezanne, Me&Em, Baukjen or Boden, or good old M&S. Look for polyester.
None of these are particularly 'hippy'.

Just spent a couple of weeks in a European capital attending work events. Some of the best dressed women were wearing Skims type dresses; obviously supremely packable, and versatile. I’d say a sleeveless sweater dress (better in a mix of maybe silk / wool rather than pure wool) performs in the same way.

By average height, do you mean UK average height for a woman (just under 5'4") or do you mean something like 5'6"or 5'7". Some of the brands I listed tend to run a bit too long for those of us of about 5'4"

Anything from this company, it's just impossible to crease them! All synthetic, but they feel lovely on, very soft smooth fabric

thanks all

Sorry, should have clarified.
hippy as in has bigger hips!
average - 5 ft 4

Not super formal but smart enough that people do dress up more than eg a birthday meal out.

must it be polyester?

Don’t really want to spend more than £100.

my taste tends to run plainer, even with accessories.

@ProperDeep do you mean like slip dresses? Not sure they would suit my figure

Thanks. I thought you might want something wafty and ethereal. It doesn't have to be polyester, but as much as I don't like it, it rolls up and takes virtually no space and doesn't crease.

Viscose and linen crease badly.

Boden used to have dresses that were cotton blend and those didn't crease.

A lightweight wool shirtdress?
A bias cut satin skirt and thin cashmere/wool-silk jumper?

Try Arket or Cos for ideas

DoDisturb · 11/10/2023 21:07

I’ve got a bias cut Ghost dress that doesn’t crease at all, I’ll see if I can find a link

FayCarew · 11/10/2023 21:25

Get the Ghost one @JustAnotherCunningStunt

You need one of these: www.jasperconran.com/products/blythe-full-skirt-shirt-dress-1

It's well over your budget but you'll wear it for years. I'm your height and about your age and have one. I call it the Doofer. Because when I'm going to a do and I'm not sure whether it's going to be smart, or smart casual, or what, this dress covers it all. It'll doofer anything.

itsmeagainagain · 11/10/2023 21:44

@Mammamiammamia that is a stunning dress! what colour have you got?

I have it in black and white stripes, as its one from last year. Thinking of getting the blue one after payday though...

itsmeagainagain · 11/10/2023 21:49

@Mammamiammamia I love the blue one best too - absolutely gorgeous will keep an eye out for a discount on it!

That looks like it will crease if rolled up in an overnight bag

gotomomo · 11/10/2023 21:54

I have a great dress from phase 8 that packs, no iron required

Yes I wouldn't try rolling it, but it folds really well. I wore it at a do in That London last week ( we are in Yorkshire) and made the husband stick it in his suit carrier. But I've taken it on holiday and it just folds in the suitcase.

FayCarew · 11/10/2023 21:56

I have a knitted dress that I bought in a boutique closing down sale that packs well.

JustAnotherCunningStunt · 12/10/2023 22:23

Thanks everyone!

lots of great ideas here. 💐
