i am uncharacteristicly drawn to these.

how do you wear them though? With jeans? Socks or no socks? No socks seems weird given closed toe, but socks seems weirder.

help me please, a short chunky lady.

I have these as my slippers, but do put the bins out etc in them as they have outdoor soles. I wouldn't wear them to the shops, because it feels weird to have bare feet with chunky mules, and socks would look dodgy.
I once accidentally wore them on the school run and didn't get out of the car.

Desperateinseattle · 10/10/2023 21:32

I’m crushed to hear this but also not surprised 😂 I’m not spending over £100 on indoor-outdoor slippers.

bum.

Birkenstocks go with anything casual. Skirts, dresses, jeans, trousers. Don't wear socks with them (i wouldn't wear socks with any other mules).

Your Ultimate Guide to Styling Birkenstocks

Birkenstocks are one of the most polarizing shoes on the market. But we're breaking down how to style the shoe in three different looks

I've got Birkenstock copies from Next because I couldn't justify the cost otherwise. They are lovely. I shall wear them in the cooler months with cream woolly socks.

PollyIndia · 10/10/2023 22:04

Loads of people have these in east London, and they are often worn with socks. I don’t think it looks weird at all, just comfy

plugin12 · 10/10/2023 22:06

I see people wear socks with them quite often , if you search 'clogs' on Zara there are some great almost identical ones, great quality too, between £30-50.

These are some , a few other styles available too.

mewkins · 10/10/2023 22:10

I've had mine for about 15 years😁 wear with woolly socks and jeans rolled up.

NewYorkBride · 10/10/2023 22:21

I was just moaning at my DP for never wearing his!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 10/10/2023 22:28

I have three pairs of Bostons - black leather, tan suede, and shearling lined slippers. In summer I wear them a bit like sandals, with bare feet, but in autumn (on a dry day) they are great with chunky knitted socks and jeans.

MumUndone · 11/10/2023 07:49

You can definitely wear socks with them. I have the ones with the furry insides and I wear them with chunky wool socks, very hygge.

Desperateinseattle · 11/10/2023 08:19

Can someone show me an example of the jeans-woolysock- Boston combo please? Are we talking straight leg, mom jeans, are we rolling up?

also I have fat ankles, they’re not delicate, does this ruin the vibe

mewkins · 11/10/2023 08:33

I wear mine with cropped wide legs or sort of mom jeans.i think they look best with something a bit cropped.

dudsville · 11/10/2023 08:40

I have two pairs for outdoors, brown and black. I think once a person gets used to them they become really flexible - I wear them with skirts, dresses, trousers of all shapes, etc., but my wardrobe suits this style. I'm not in pencil skirts and suit type clothes. I wear them with and without socks, sometimes both in the same day depending on a temp drop or rise. They're a useful transitional shoe for this reason. Mine are leather. I don't wear them on actual rainy days, but sometimes on days when it's just a little spotty and they hold up well. Mine are serval years old and still look new up top. I imagine they'll need to be resoled in 2 or 3 years.

Desperateinseattle · 11/10/2023 08:56

I live in dungarees, mom jeans and cardies when not on the farm, maybe I could pull them off.

where to find nice socks too?

OP posts:
sailrunski · 11/10/2023 09:18

Yes to the socks and jeans!

I find fab wool socks in little independent shops usually. However, have now spent another small fortune adding to my sock collection

Squit · 11/10/2023 09:41

I don’t think a day has passed in the last 4 or 5 years that I haven’t worn my Boston clogs for at least part of the day.

a very sound investment imo.
