Short, slimmish apple shapes what on earth are you buying at the moment?

I am 42, 5’3”, size 10/12 with good legs, small bum, large boobs and a bit of a mum tum.
I’ve always been pretty good at dressing for my figure.
Finer knits, short skirts, skater dresses, generally quite fitted so I am not swamped.
But lately I am strugggling. Everything current seems to be oversized and slouchy, belted to show of small waists that I don’t have. The skirts are either long or ridiculously short which I am getting too old for. I like above the knee but not micro anymore.
I don’t desperately need to follow fashion anymore but want to a look a bit current. Plus where do I find the stuff that would suit me but isn’t necessarily in fashion anyway?

I guess there really is nothing in the shops for us at the moment.

I’m a similar shape, but a little taller (and wider, size 12) so can do a midi style.
After totally losing their way for a few years, Boden have some styles that might work for us. I like this dress. But there are also nice knee length styles. https://www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/thea-long-sleeve-midi-dress-veridian-green-geo-charm/sty-d0836-grn?cat=C1_S2_G4

Those dresses are too long for me and I really struggle with belted details. I just can’t do boden unless it is and extremely basic knit.

You are probably better off sticking with classic pieces in petite sizes. Find a tailor you trust. Uniqlo is good for basics.

Apple-ish, slim hips, short

I'm living in high waisted faux leather leggings

Daytime with loafers or trainers, later in winter with same colour ankle boots, evenings with strappy sandals.

Very comfortable and i think not too frumpy.

So true - I thought it was just me cos I've not long had a baby and I'm really struggling with current fashion! Love winter as I always live in dresses tights and boots.

Nutellaonall · 10/10/2023 20:38

I am tempted by the leather leggings. I kind of stopped wearing leggings as I pretty much lived in them for a while after having babies back to back. But the leather look might tempt me back again.

I do tend to go for more classic pieces just find them increasingly hard to find.

My uniform in the winter has always been a dark plain fine knit or jersey type top sometimes with an architecturally interesting sleeve like a puff sleeve or bat wing and a patterned above the knee skirt in an a-line or skater style or jeans.

@Nutellaonall £25 / pair is pretty low risk 😁

I ended up with more than one pair.

I’m 5’2 and a 12. I’ve gone monochrome this year. Black can be aging on me but a bit of fake tan helps me look fresher, so I’ve got some nice stuff from Cos - wide legged twill trousers, and a couple of snug tops - and a short tweed jacket with big buttons from Mango. Black button-down shirt. The big blazer or oversized look doesn’t suit me. I have to have things in proportion that don’t swamp me. The tum isn’t going anywhere but my shoulders and top half are my slimmest part, and I try to keep them neat. For meetings or events I do try to wear colour to stand out a bit, but stuff that can be mixed up.

I have a wardrobe of shift dresses and colour heels that didn’t get out last year at all, and I don’t see them making an appearance this year either.

Phase Eight do batwing fine-knit jumpers, the style is called Cristine and they just change the colours each season. They also do a dress called Becca which is flattering on apples if you've got good legs.

AvengedQuince · 11/10/2023 07:14

Is this just apple vs pear? I put on weight on my middle, I'm a 10 chest, 8 waist, 6 hips, whatever that is! T-shirts tucked into high waisted jeans and men's jumpers.

FrancesInWonderland · 11/10/2023 09:55

There is an instagrammer called Emily Lucy rajch and she sound a similar shape, she puts high street outfits together, some good inspiration. Sometimes I find if you search #size12apple or a variation, outfits etc come up and you can see what they look like on other people! Good luck. X

Mummyofbananas · 11/10/2023 12:32

I'm a similar body type although smaller boobs and wide hips and I find adding a belt creates more of a waist line with high waisted mum type jeans and tucked in top or shorter top- the jeans have to fit nice at the top to pull my stomach in though.

Franticbutterfly · 11/10/2023 15:55

Knitted dresses.

Nutellaonall · 11/10/2023 23:16

Love the phase 8 Christine top.
