High waisted emerald green stretch crushed velvet hot pants from a really cool indie boutique circa 1989 or 90 that I wore on nights out with opaque black tights, and black suede platform t-bar shoes from Miss Selfridge that had little flowers punched out of the leather . Sounds awful but I loved them-wouldn’t wear them again, obviously, but I wish I still had them.

A few things:

The top I wore on millennium eve when I was fourteen. It was from Topshop and was a deep pink and purple dip dye with a batik style pattern on it in white. Semi sheer mesh, round neck with long flared sleeves. It would look cool now and I bet I could still fit into it. Plus it would be fab to still have something from such an iconic night.

I also think often of a particular top with a square neck and elbow length sleeves with a frill in a particularly flattering shade of pink, from Morgan. It was one of my first 'grown up' items of clothing bought for a party I went to aged thirteen. I wore it regularly for at least fifteen years, probably more, until it was just completely bobbly and worn out. I think I'd still wear it now if not!

A jumper I had when I was fifteen or sixteen from Miss Selfridge. It was slightly cropped, fitted with a v-neck, pink with a sequinned strawberry on the front. I used to wear it with super low waisted bootleg jeans with a frayed 'waist' hem and red and pink diamantes on the hip area. My still now best friend had the same top and we used to argue about who got to wear it for non-uniform days and so on. Sadly that did get too small.

Around the same time as the jumper and I had a black sleevless top with raw hems and PUNK in red glitter across the front. I had that for quite a while until the glitter was gone.

So many more things are coming to mind now... I miss the glory days of the British high street!

God I loved Morgan. I still miss Kookai- I’ve still got a couple of ‘vintage’ items from there.

I often fantasise a lot about my late 80's clubbing outfits. (Please don't judge). I wouldn't wear them now but I wish I still had them for nostalgia's sake. My black velvet catsuit which was a long sleeved ballet style wrap over on the top and had ski pants stirrups on the bottom. My Bowie style catsuit which was a long sleeved tight long sleeved lycra number made of alternating slanting stripes of red shiny lycra and black sheer see through lycra. My white velvet blouson biker jacket - so soft warm and comfy. A lovely black leather sleeveless biker gilet. A Marc O'Polo beige stretchy top which looked a bit like long johns but had underwired cups at the bust. My long Katharine Hamnett denim skirt (which to be fair I would wear now if I could fit into it). I would also wear the Miss Sixty red and orange striped v neck which was very flattering if I still had it.

80s suede pixie boots - had the same style in navy and light brown

Red and white striped cheesecloth shirt with tie front and a white grandad collar

Pale yellow cable knit jumper

Denim wedge sandals with embroidered floral pattern

@Warriormum1 I loved my stirrup catsuits! I had one with adidas stripes 😊

'Morgan" is still available on ASOS, though it's probably not the same brand. And may be a bit young for us these days! Kookaï was incredible. See also Bay Trading Co, Dolcis, and there was another great shoe shop whose name eludes me..

bluedelphiniums · 06/10/2023 21:33

Clogs! I lived in them during my teen years and loved them.

GellerYeller · 06/10/2023 21:35

@newrubylane Was it Shelleys?!

musicinspring1 · 06/10/2023 21:36

This thread made me remember the best denim jacket I ever owned - perfect shade of light-ish blue. Fitted but not tight. Pockets. Can't remember where it was from - possibly Top Shop - but it was victim to a move early 2000s and I've never found one as good since!

pumpkinspicedbogroll · 06/10/2023 21:39

A black and red checked bomber jacket that my Aunty made me when I was about 8.

DD wishes I had all my old Adidas stuff and the dresses I used to wear for raves.

CalmConfident · 06/10/2023 21:40

a beautiful sailor style dress…but a pleated skirt and the sailor collar were rainbow shades. It was for Sunday school prize giving when I was about 9/10. Gorgeous !

CalmConfident · 06/10/2023 21:41

More recently…..my brown doc martens with toe caps and double buckles, lost in house move about 20 years ago

SUCkythings · 06/10/2023 21:43

Black leather waistcoat from topshop -
black roll necks with gold chain that went down to waist- the style was great!
One year everyone turned up mid 90’s in burgundy blazers with massively ruffled shirts.
clubbing gear.

jinty84 · 06/10/2023 21:44

A pale blue chiffon-y top with fluted, fluttery short sleeves. Bought from Miss Selfridge but from the pineapple dance wear brand Miss Selfridge used to stock. I have tried to find another since with no luck.

jinty84 · 06/10/2023 21:45

And a purple jumper my grandmother knitted for me Sad

CheshireCat1 · 06/10/2023 21:50

I had some gorgeous flowing maxi dresses and a lovely bottle green velvet bomber jacket that I loved.

@newrubylane Was it Shelleys?!

Edited

No, we didn't have Shelleys where I lived but I removed my cousins talking about it. It was a woman's name, I think, but it may just have been a local shop rather than a national brand. I'm going to ask my mum.

*remember, not removed

The black washed denim jacket with cord collar and tartan lining and matching cropped jeans from warehouse bought in London in about 82. Also my 501s from about the same time, think they disintegrated.
my dh regrets the loss of a late 40s peg trousers, blazer and big overcoat bought the same time in Flip.

Warriormum1 · 06/10/2023 21:56

@GellerYeller that reminds me of the long purple Adidas midi skirt I had in the late nineties 😂😂

Wolvesart · 06/10/2023 21:58

Emerald green coat

ToxicPositivity · 06/10/2023 21:58

My mum keeps bringing me clothes that she finds in her house. I suspect she's got a pile of my old teenage clothes and gives a couple to me a year to ration them. The biggest baggiest jeans, still fit but frankly I look like a twat, or do i? No, I do! I'm 37 now.

she did bring me a pair of jeans that for me perfect, I struggle to find ones that do so that was a pleasant surprise.

The Britney t-shirt though, well...
