Does this dress look weddingy?

Right, I’ve name changed for this, just in case anyone recognises my cabinet!

I’ve bought this dress from Ghost, and I absolutely love it. Colour is perfect. Fit is very flattering.

I bought it for those times when I want to go to a posh restaurant, and don’t have anything to wear. Not just normal posh, but posh posh fyne dyning sort of thing. I find if I have something like that coming up, I can never find anything in the shops, so I thought I’d buy this in a pre-emptive strike.

However, there is just a 5% niggling doubt in my mind that it’s a little bit wedding ish? I am in my 50s, so may be a little bit mother of the bride?

What do you think?

You look lovely.

DoIlooklikemotheroftherbride · 04/10/2023 15:10

Thank you. I feel great in it, and it really is some kind of magical illusion dress in terms of creating a shape. I think it’s maybe the sheen of the fabric and the covered buttons that is making me over think ‘wedding’.

I don't think it looks 'weddingy' at all, you could absolutely wear itto a wedding, but dressed down it's an excellent dress in the arsenal for 'fyne dyning' and the like.

LadyBird1973 · 04/10/2023 15:15

I think it's lovely too. Perfect for a posh restaurant

Satie33 · 04/10/2023 15:15

love it, suits you down to the ground

ErrolTheDragon · 04/10/2023 15:27

Fine for a nice restaurant, fine for a wedding depending what you wear with it.
Maybe a bit low in front for a funeral so it's not quite an 'all occasion' dress.Grin

Flyinggeesei234 · 04/10/2023 15:41

OP you look great and it’s not too weddingy for what you describe. BUT this dress seems to appear on almost every wedding guest dress on MN. I knew what the dress was before even opening the thread. So in that sense it has a wedding connotation!

Galiana · 04/10/2023 15:51

I think it's just one of those dresses @Flyinggeesei234 that obviously work for a lot of women in terms of shape so has become popular and recommended because it's an easy wear. Can dress up, down, won't frighten the horses. It's a goldilocks kind of dress! Not too hot, not too cold, it does the job and makes the wearer feel great.

CinnamonJellyBeans · 04/10/2023 16:12

I think the under confident colour makes it look a bit bridesmaidy, like you're a background feature, designed to blend in.

Apart from that, a lovely dress, which suits you.

PermanentTemporary · 04/10/2023 16:28

Love it. I would wear something special in the way of white metal/white stone jewellery with it though.

DutifulDaughterWifeMother · 04/10/2023 16:30

You look stunning in it!!

Not weddingy at all. KEEEP!

Olika · 04/10/2023 16:37

It's amazing

mrsmingleton · 04/10/2023 17:32

I don't think the shoes are a match but the dress is a good staple.

AllrightNowBaby · 04/10/2023 17:37

Love the dress, which suits you and not particularly weddingy but could be worn to a wedding but the shoes don’t look right imo, maybe something a bit more strappy or dainty looking would be better.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 04/10/2023 17:40

Love the dress and it looks great on you but those shoes aren't right with it imo. You need some that aren't black and 'heavy' looking.

LiberteEgaliteBeyonce · 04/10/2023 17:43

Agree with others that the dress is ace. Also agree that the shoes aren't so great; however, if it's dinner they won't be seen so much.

headcheffer · 04/10/2023 17:44

You look lovely, the dress is great and your figure is amazing! Agree with PP you need different shoes if possible.

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 04/10/2023 17:54

The dress is gorgeous and looks great on you.
I saw this on another thread and the poster ended up pairing it with some Esska shoes, which looked amazing with it.

DoIlooklikemotheroftherbride · 04/10/2023 18:53

That’s brilliant, you have all reassured me! Grin I think maybe I was being influenced by the fact that I’ve always slightly regretted not getting my wedding dress from Ghost. And to whoever described the colour as ‘underconfident’ and therefore bridesmaidy - the colour is great. I have reached an age where black makes me look haggard, and this dress the the exact colour of my eyes.

I agree with what you’re all saying about the shoes. I’ve just bought these Tracey Neuls off e bay and dyed them a silvery/pewtery colour to be less heavy against the dress. I am not 100% about the T stap with the length of the dress, but I think the colour is light enough to get away with it. What do you think?

It's beautiful and classic. I wouldn't think of it as weddingy, though you could wear it as a wedding guest. Definitely not MOB.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/10/2023 18:57

I agree the colour is great!

coxesorangepippin · 04/10/2023 19:45

Not at all

You look fabulous

DoIlooklikemotheroftherbride · 04/10/2023 19:55

I am appreciating the shoe suggestions, thanks!
