Faux leather minis

Is mid 50's too old to still wear faux leather minis?

I have 3. Red, burgundy and black. Only the black one has been worn, twice.

Hi I am mid 50's to and will be bringing mine out when the weather properly turns! Can't wait for the thick black tights and boots! 😀

Inmy50s · 03/10/2023 23:07

Pokerprincess....

Thank you. Are yours minis also?

I have been complimented on my black one, but need a bit more confidence wearing it and the others again.

I have decided to go with my black one tonight, seeing a couple of friends, to see how it goes.

It's a confidence thing. I reckon they look chic on anyone and might get one to wear with opaque tights, flat ankle boots and a polo neck.

Inmy50s · 04/10/2023 18:00

That is it with me. Confidence.
So far, I have just worn the black one twice, with family, but never out.

Definitely not in my opinion. They're can be dressed up or down and can look lovely at any age.

I bet you look fab and should definitely try the other colours Smile

Inmy50s · 04/10/2023 18:58

Thank you.

I also have considered one of the snakeskin patterned faux leather skirts, slightly longer though.

Go for it. In France I've seen quite a lot of older women in short skirts - usually skinny women, although I think short skirts are fine on larger figures too.

I'm 46 and have leather minis still. I wear them with tights and a jumper.

Vitriolinsanity · 04/10/2023 20:38

Have literally just started a thread in pursuit of said skirt! I'm 54, wide in waist but long in leg. Plan is to style with cashmere roll neck and biker boots with Superdry jacket.

lindyloo57 · 04/10/2023 20:53

I'm 63 just brought the real leather one from marks and spencer in black, I love it, I'm only 5ft 3 so it's not to short, I would love the silver one too, but it's sold out in all sizes.

Zipps · 04/10/2023 21:10

I'm mid 50's and love them.
I have black faux leather mini and two knee length - grey snakeskin and pink/burgundy.
I prefer to wear them dressed down with a long sleeve T-shirt or plain cashmere or cable knit jumper in neutral colours, opaque tights and chelsea/chunky boots.

Inmy50s · 04/10/2023 21:13

I just popped out to briefly visit 2 friends who thought I looked fab in my black faux leather mini😊

DramaAlpaca · 04/10/2023 21:22

Well done, OP!

I'm in my 50s and love my faux leather skirts. I wore one to work today with a chunky jumper, tights and boots.

Inmy50s · 04/10/2023 23:38

Son has just seen the skirt hung up and dislikes it. He asked where the whip was☹️

Our boys can be very cutting, just ignore, if your friends like it that is what counts. 😀
I have a couple of black mini ones and a petrol blue and dark green pencil knee length, but sadly the pencil ones are looking very old and tired, I may have to retire the but I have worn them to death.

Rude!
Although I will say that generally they are a garment that look completely different on, compared to hung up.

Wear them and enjoy 😊

Bookist · 05/10/2023 09:55

I'm the same age as you OP and I love them. My legs are the best part of me. Only problem I have is that I have narrow hips so they often look too triangular on me.

Has anyone spotted a faux leather mini that is straight, not A line?

BristolBlueGlasses · 05/10/2023 11:13

@Bookist I saw one in Tu at Sainsbury's this week. Looked quite straight but I didn't have time to stop to look closely. Please don't buy the last one as I'm going back to try it on.

WellDuh · 05/10/2023 11:39

I've got 2 black ones, both still with the tags on! I've owned one for 4 years and the other for maybe 3. I've tried them on loads of times with fancy/patterned tights and heeled boots.....not got the guts to actually leave the house in them. Yet!!! I will do it the next chance I can!

WellDuh · 05/10/2023 11:40

I'm nearly 48 btw with great legs! 😁

partypant · 05/10/2023 12:09

No problem at all regarding age. I would question the red though I suspect red faux leather mini wouldn't look great

I'm genuinely interested in why?

I'm imagining it with a chunky, grey, roll neck jumper that comes down to the butt with a bit of the skirt peeking out underneath

partypant · 05/10/2023 12:47

@IndianSummer78 because I've never see. Coloured faux leather look good. It always looks cheap and plasticky. Black faux can look fine

AuntieMarys · 05/10/2023 13:02

I'm mid 60s , great legs ( 35 inch inside leg) and would like a 24 inch length one

pinaforecrochet · 05/10/2023 17:39

I'm not in my 50s yet, but I'm agreeing that these would be fine to wear. I like the sound of the burgundy particularly. Though these were fashionable in the late 80s that I last remember.
