If you were a middle aged woman and wanted to look sexy as hell for a Christman party...

Without looking ridiculous, what steps would you be taking now?

Don't panic, it's not work related!

I'm mid 50s, 5'"7, size 10, sometimes an 8 if it's not too fitted on the hips, well toned.

Blonde crop, a summer colour palate.

Don't get on very well with heels, don't usually wear much makeup. I usually aim for attractively understated. I'd quite like to make for of an impact at this one, but aware that could backfire. Middle aged sexy could translate as aging prostitute, so we'll try not to do that 😆

I suppose a dress is the place to start, where from?

I'm short but I really want a tux now. I've nowhere to wear it but hell, it would make a change from me rocking my pjs.

@Trainplan I hope you find your perfect Christmas gift under the mistletoe 🎄

DeathRattleDazzle · 02/10/2023 21:38

I don't want a jump suit, most aren't very flattering from the back, they're awkward and again, surely more tryhard than most dresses?

No I wouldn't agree on any of that tbh

lionsleepstonight · 02/10/2023 21:38

It's Christman party all they way now for me!

Seaside3 · 02/10/2023 21:39

Maybe the real problem is 'sexy as hell' is subjective. As long as you're comfortable, youre gonna be sexy as hell.

ColdEvenings · 02/10/2023 21:42

I'm loving this thread! It's amazing at the difference in opinions eh? Some choices that people think are sexy I think of as frumpy work clothes!!

Hope you find one you like.

Blinkityblonk · 02/10/2023 21:42

I love that too, happy memories of similar dresses.

I think jumpsuits are generally more relaxed and cooler looking than dresses. I agree about being a pain to wear though

the problem is if you wear a short skirt you really need heels I think. whereas with trousers you can do cool trainers or similar

Mummyofbananas · 02/10/2023 21:44

Trainplan · 02/10/2023 17:43

A leather skirt has a place, but surely not at a glitzy Christmas parry?

I think a nice fitting leather pencil type skirt land something like an embellished cami that sits at the waist could be beautiful with nice shoes, I think that's a really timeless look- I'd have worn something like that at 20 and still would now in my late 30's.

I think with your height and body type the suits or the jumpsuit above would be lovely.

Hoolihan · 02/10/2023 21:46

I've bought this for various festivities. Super flattering and understated sexy imo.

I have this and wore it at an event not too long ago. It might be my favourite dress. ❤️

I also really love this, it was a dream on.

Does anyone know anything about Pretty Kitty? Some of these dresses are lovely, but seem too cheap.

I think coast or phase 8 might be a good one?

DeathRattleDazzle · 02/10/2023 22:21

I've had a few Pretty Kitty dresses and loved them all. They do a fantastic line in Bardot necklines 😍

They're not lined, probably won't have pockets, but they're not cheap rubbish. The patterns and materials are great. I wore one to a wedding last year and absolutely loved it.

TheresaBouvey · 02/10/2023 22:22

@Trainplan thanks, I LOVE the lipsy one and will order that for myself

CardboardHat · 02/10/2023 22:26

I like yoir three choices, and I am in the same camp that actually sleeveless makes my arms look less but that capped sleeves, unless they are past my elbow it’s sleeveless for me.

vlo · 02/10/2023 22:28

I like the long one best of the three, the other two are both nice also!

Seaside3 · 02/10/2023 22:30

@Greeksummer I love love those options.

Boomboom22 · 02/10/2023 22:39

Lots of these are not sexy at all. The John Lewis covered head to toe one?

CharlotteRumpling · 02/10/2023 22:40

The Zara dresses above look a lot better to me than the Lipsy ones.

Itsnotallaboutyoulikeyouthink · 02/10/2023 22:43

I buy work pencil dresses from pretty Kitty. They are great value for money, I’ve had them years.

Lavenderandbrown · 02/10/2023 22:44

Wow so many great outfits on this thread. A jumpsuit is very sexy. The me and em in blue is a standout. Don’t wear black. Color is sexy and men?like color. You have many good suggestions here so I think to look sexy I would have …Fresh cut and color. I would book an October and November facial. Ask for a light peel. Like a skin ceuticals type facial. No redness or peeling. Bleach your teeth. Moisturize very very well. Plumped up skin. A very light gold shimmer (not glitter check Clinique) eyeshadow with a little something darker in the crease. Minimal blush and a SHEER red lipstick. Eyes and lips but not all three (eyes cheeks and lips) shoes are very important. Can you wear a chunky heel platform? Or a peep toe? Feet are sexy so I would wear a jumpsuit with an open toe shoe with a nicely pedicured (at home by me) foot. Maybe a red but maybe a pink or sheer natural tone. These all make the most of your beauty. Clear or very light natural nail polish manicure (again at home). To me I would want to look groomed toned and fashionable but not too much on obvious display. Hinted at. Champagne smile and engagement with everyone.

MistyBay · 02/10/2023 22:45

I would be very careful showing off too much skin. A slightly flabby upper arm can absolutely kill the look. a bit of spider vein on the leg, a no no. A sun damaged décolleté a give away. It’s not worth it.

as it’s winter I’d go for a long sleeve height neck dress that enhances your best bits and then get your hair and make up absolutely nailed.

you’ll look sexier and more relevant the less skin you show. You might be a knock out, but under the wrong lights and in winter anything less than perfection when it comes to skin tone and a toned body can undermine the whole effect.
