If you were a middle aged woman and wanted to look sexy as hell for a Christman party...

Without looking ridiculous, what steps would you be taking now?

Don't panic, it's not work related!

I'm mid 50s, 5'"7, size 10, sometimes an 8 if it's not too fitted on the hips, well toned.

Blonde crop, a summer colour palate.

Don't get on very well with heels, don't usually wear much makeup. I usually aim for attractively understated. I'd quite like to make for of an impact at this one, but aware that could backfire. Middle aged sexy could translate as aging prostitute, so we'll try not to do that 😆

I suppose a dress is the place to start, where from?

I am nearly your age, and there is nothing worse than desperately trying to be ‘sexy’ it is so off putting and embarrassing. At this point your confidence and natural authority should do the talking.

The dresses you have listed are try hard. A black lace trimmed silk top and fitted trousers and amazing shoes will be more than enough. Be cool, know your worth. That’s more sexy than a lipsy dress.

This.

Jumpsuit?

Not read all the answers, but take a look at trinny on Instagram. She does sassy/sexy really well, in my opinion.

PollyIndia · 02/10/2023 19:46

I think the suit idea is good as long as very well cut. I like venswifestyle on Instagram. She’s 58 and does sexy middle aged woman to a t (in my opinion ). The dress she wore to her last birthday party was lovely. Though she gets to wear very expensive clothes, but maybe good inspiration. She’s over a decade older than me, but I’d love to wear clothes like her when I get to mid-late 50s!

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 02/10/2023 19:49

The first 2 red dresses you posted a stunning and the green one @Lavenderosa posted. There’s a lady that comes to our village hall events who’s much older than you, tall, slim with amazing legs and she always looks incredible in any dress or tailored trousers. I want to be like her when I grow up 😂! (I might have told her that in the toilets while drunk and she said, “You’ve made an old lady very happy”.)

awaynboilyurheid · 02/10/2023 19:53

Crumpet That’s a lovely jumpsuit looks elegant and is not a clingy cheap looking dress.

needtonamechangeagain · 02/10/2023 19:58

All of the above and a ton of confidence.

choixduroi · 02/10/2023 19:59

@crumpet where is the jumpsuit from?

LadyFlumpalot · 02/10/2023 20:01

How about something like this? I've got this dress in the seashell print and it's gorgeous and very flattering.

This dress but at 5ft 7in, size 10 and well toned, you'd probably look good in anything!

If you like red OP, I'd go for this in red. I prefer it to your choices, sorry.

rumnraisinrocks · 02/10/2023 20:18

I love that jumpsuit @crumpet

Worn with a fab pair of heels it would be sexy in a confident cool way, IMHO.

CleanUpYourPipeline · 02/10/2023 20:20

What is SLT please?

GingerIsBest · 02/10/2023 20:27

I like @crumpet's suggestion. Or a good jumpsuit.

I'd be looking at a very simple, well fitted tunic style dress. Something like this in shape.

then it becomes about the accessories, hair etc. You don't have to wear super high heels either but can go with something glamorous but lower heeled.

Stravaig · 02/10/2023 20:29

@AuntieDolly I really liked that top until I scrolled down and realised they forgot to attach a skirt 🤣

What is SLT please?

Senior Leadership Team. Just a pop at women who've become Asst, Deputy or Headteachers.

rainbowdoc · 02/10/2023 20:32

I think a beautiful jumpsuit cinched at the waist with some sparkle or shimmer should do the trick. This paired with a pair of black or dark heels, long earrings and a clutch will make all the ladies envious of you!

rainbowdoc · 02/10/2023 20:33

crumpet · 02/10/2023 19:33

Jumpsuit?

Although maybe not this jumpsuit, I was thinking something a little more structured and fitted

Purpleavocado · 02/10/2023 20:36

Did you have a budget, Halston at Reiss looks lovely but spendy

It is all very well saying 'you are enough' - but this is a Style and Beauty board where the OP has asked for help to look like a sex bomb. Your post is no help at all!

OP - I would go down the tuxedo route personally, because I like a bit of androgyny and it works well on the slim and toned. You aren't showing acres of flesh but the slightly masculine twist does look sexy and grown up

Really? I would have thought that suggesting she is enough and is attractive without going for a 'what have you come as?' Jessica Rabbit's Mum outfit would actually be a good style tip, as it means she'll look effortless and comfortable, rather than in a costume.
