Plus size style overhaul

I’m a 16/18 typically with a very pear shaped figure and I’m on my mid 30s and hit a style rut.

I want to buy some higher quality fashion staples as more of a capsule wardrobe rather than cheap stuff that is shapeless and looks tatty really quickly.

I don’t know where to start!

I work from home so don’t need to look formal but do think that swapping a tired skinny jean for a tailored trouser might actually make me look less shabby.

what brands and staple items do I need?

Try a stretch trouser - everyone seems to be buying wide leg but I'm short so don't. I buy niche stretch trousers as they look smart but are oh so comfy.

That or magic trousers as they're fab.

Try trousers in black/blue/grey and then team any of those with a top of your choice. My high end ends at Roman as I can't afford anything else 🤣

Thanks @Frosty1000. do you have any pictures or links to what you mean?

im about 5ft 5 so not really tall! Not sure whether wide leg would make me look dumpy or not

I'm 5'6" and can wear wide legs without looking dumpy. I'm slim though so I don't know if that makes a difference. I'm short waisted too so most of my height is in my legs. I need things to fit over my hips and be wide from the top of my legs down. Things that are wide from my hips downward, or worst from the waistband downward, swamp me

Hi @SunSparkle, I'm a bit older than you (mid 40s) but same dilemma - no idea what to wear now! I left the office to have my DC, was made redundant, been WFH ever since - if I have to meet up with anyone I tend to wear some reasonably smart bootcut trousers with a presentable top (my go to ones are from Tesco or Sainsburys at the moment, pleasant looking without being exciting!).

I really need to get my arse into gear and lose some weight though - had an awful flashback to my DM when she was about my age and I was an older teenager - she had pretty much given up on fashion/ styling/ weight loss by then and just looked like a bag lady most of the time Confused I mean I'm not that bad yet but am happy in my joggers and massive hoody at home, just need to improve my look for outside the house!

How about the Sloane tailored trousers from A&F? They come in various lengths, inc extra short, colours and also do a love curve version that has extra inches around hips.

They are low on lots of sizes though, I’m hoping they restock as I’d love a pair!
