Ankle boots for dresses

I'm slowly rediscovering my style, after having a child in my 40's and completely losing my way. If I wear a dress it tends to be midi, full skirted. What kind of ankle boots would look best? I've always worn long boots. Need both daytime and dressier. I'm 5ft 8.

How is the traction on these? Are they slippy on smooth surfaces / going down steep slopes? They look like they wouldn’t have great grip.

I like short boots with skirts too.

I have several pairs from Gabor who do low heeled but slightly dressier boots as well as flats. They are super comfortable too, unusually for me.

I have these boots in brown and black. Blowfish from schuh. I wear them in the day time. Very comfortable. Looks nice with dresses, trousers and jeans.

I am looking for soft brown leather flat ankle boots, if anyone has any good suggestions. Something easy to wear - not stiff leather.

@Inastatus in case it’s useful to get a range of experiences re Emu sizing… I am same size as you (lean more to 4.5 after 2 children plus peri) and have Emus in a UK5 which are perfect. The 4 are definitely too small (I used to have the same experience with Uggs, so perhaps it’s an Australian sizing thing). So agree with @Stripeypyjamas - If you veer towards the half size I’d definitely go up in Emu. (Great boots though - last forever! Only sad that this means I can’t justify buying more!🤣)

I bought some lovely boots, both ankle and knee length, from Bobbies. I believe they are a Spanish brand. The color is absolutely lovely.

There really isn’t a ‘best’, @FabFitFifties - you’re free to choose whichever style most pleases you and your mirror.

Where to look for beautiful ankle boots is a different matter.

If you favour a romantic look and your full skirts veer towards the Cabbages and Roses style, you’d probably like the daintier examples from

Lanx.

If you want something chunkier you may prefer Grenson

Penelope Chilvers always seem quite ladylike.

Whereas Trickers are definitely rugged.

Cheap and cheerful option on Amazon - have loved wearing these with dresses this year - especially with the changeable weather, these tan boots are comfortable and look good with bare legs too. I may get a grey pair as well. Look more expensive than they are:
