A brown nail varnish like this

I had a brown Chanel nail varnish like this but it chipped like mad. Loved the colour but it didn't last. Has anyone got a similar colour they can recommend that's not Chanel (not that I can afford it anyway ) and has some durability please

can you go somewhere to have it applied properly? The application might be causing the chipping. Sorry, but that’s very badly applied.

@DobbyTheHouseElk anything to add on colour? This was thrown on and no prep at all. (no I can't go somewhere- no money ). Not really in the spirit of what I was asking.

Sorry, I wasn’t intended to offend you. It’s just that even a fantastic nail Polish, applied incorrectly will chip.

I work in the beauty industry, apologies.

OPI do great polish, they have a few browns.

Polkadotjarmies · 01/10/2023 08:46

@DobbyTheHouseElk thank you. I hate not being very good at it. Maybe I'm
better with bare nails. Or need to go on a course ...

Chanel polish is notoriously awful for chipping. Great colours but it doesn't stay on. I still miss rouge noir.

Agree, have never had worse nail varnish for longevity than Chanel. I have finally beaten myself out of falling for the lovely colours.

It's looks like it's applied really thickly OP which might not be helping how long it lasts.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 01/10/2023 10:41

I got a fab OPI one a few weeks ago - “Brown to Earth”. It’s maybe a bit more chocolate-y than you are after but their polishes go on very nicely, and loads of shades. The trick is to do a base, two thin layers, then a top coat, and I think like most things it helps to go for a brand that do one thing only, really well. You can usually get OPI on eBay much cheaper or if you have a Sally’s close by.

Have you thought about investing in builder gel and a uv nail lamp? Gives a great professional finish and lasts 2-3 weeks.

Manicdolphin · 01/10/2023 11:56

Essie does lots of sludge green/ browns. I’ve got quite the collection.
I also do my own nails. Base coat, 2/3 thin coats of colour and really good top coat like Seche Vite. I’m hard on my hands and can get about 5 days before chipping, on holiday 10 easily. Then just practice and you tube are your friends.
Chanel polish was notorious for chipping and I’ve never returned to see if the new formula is any better.

Restlessinthenorth · 01/10/2023 12:18

I have a few Chanel nail polishes and agree. They are terrible for chipping compared to almost any brand I've ever used, including those that cost a couple of quid. I don't know why they don't deal with it. However! I do find that a coat of sech vite on any polish makes it last, even my Chanel's. Worth a try if you have it still

I have a lamp but after a few crap attempts I gave up - can you tell me in words that a nails simpleton would understand what to buy and how it works? Thank you 🤣

shrunkenhead · 01/10/2023 14:11

@Polkadotpjs sorry, just an idea. I haven't a clue myself which is why I have to go to a salon every 2/3weeks - it's my only luxury so I feel it's worth it.

Polkadotjarmies · 01/10/2023 15:26

@shrunkenhead ha! I'm tempted myself now but it's so expensive. Mind you, DH gets custo made beard dye at £30 a month so...

DobbyTheHouseElk · 01/10/2023 17:47

I’d avoid the gel polish. You have to be so careful to make sure the lamp is the correct wattage for the gel. Otherwise it’s uncured and the HEMA will seep into your nail and can cause hideous reactions.

To be honest you need a Polish with a long thin brush. It’s it’s thick and stubby it’s hard to apply properly.

Start with the hand you find the most difficult then do the easy hand. That way you avoid doing the difficult hand with wet nails.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 01/10/2023 18:13

Ha ha! I had a £1 mug at work that was that colour. We always called it "the Chanel mug".

Supremely unhelpful, sorry.

Ihaveawonderfulpartner · 01/10/2023 18:48

Dh bought me a lovely Chanel yellow but it goes on streaky and the brush is thin. I like a wide brush. Not helpful I know.
