Going to a winter wedding

Dear fashionistas, I have bought this dress and I love it. Any advice on shoes, earrings and perhaps an evening coat to go over the top of it. It’s a sort of 1940’s style (I think). Don’t want it to look like I’m an extra in downtown abbey, however would love to do it justice. Am going with a nice wavy blow dry and a strong dark red lip. Would rather steer away from more velvet if possible. Can you please help?

That is beautiful. I would go for pearls

That's an amazing dress. You'll look great even if you wear a sack over it.

I wonder if you could wear a stole over it (something dramatic in faux fur or fine, lacy yarn). Maybe it'll be too cold for that though.

People often wear velvet coats over smoother crepe or silk dresses, so maybe you could reverse that with a silk/crepe duster/kimono-type coat? The simplicity of a kimono/duster design might highlight the dress.

I don't think you could go wrong with shoes and earrings. I'd prefer covered feet in winter (makes me uncomfortable to see strappy sandals and blue feet!). Anything with a closed toe--maybe slightly round and smoothish matte fabric to highlight the velvet?

I went to a posh winter wedding and everyone was wearing Grannie’s Old Mink Coat. It was kind of cool.
