Clinique

I have my heart set on Clinique's black honey lip gloss.
I don't really want to shell out £22 odd, so just wanted to know of anyone knew of a money off voucher.
I don't want to buy anything else from the Clinique range, so getting it free/discounted after buying a travel set/ bunch of 4 products etc. would be useless to me ifyswim.
Ps. I also haven't got enough Boots points.
Pps. I'm not after a dupe... I usually love that but I've swatched them alreasy and they don't come close.

Thankyou

Not at all what you asked for but this was what one review said:
'Nice colour but it's very pricey for what it is and it doesn't last long. Also, I found out that it's not cruelty-free :( I bought E.l.f black cherry, which is a quarter of the price, not tested on animals, feels nicer on and is pretty much the same colour. Save your money and buy E.l.f. instead.'

It's £5

TheOGCCL · 26/09/2023 13:46

Only thing I can suggest if you know a student as they can get 10% off at Boots.

Thanks for your input, I value it.
I went to try the ELF black cherry as a swatch on my hand and I think it's too creamy and leans towards purple too much instead of the brown/burgundy of Clinique.
Thanks for telling me about the negative review of Clinique, I might not buy it based on that. xxx

I thought Clinique was cruelty free, that's a shame.

I wouldn't bother - I hate their gloss formula

Herefordhousewife · 26/09/2023 20:03

I have it and it lasts about a minute on my lips , needs reapplying constantly. Like the colour but it’s not long wearing at all. Very meh

Startyabastard · 26/09/2023 21:43

@Herefordhousewife thanks for that info, that's helped me decide! You were definitely talking about the gloss rather than the 'almost lipstick'?
I'd be furious paying out for premium for it to be shit. Thanks love xxx

Oh sorry actually it’s the lipstick! But still, paid £££ (a splurge for me too) and was disappointed x

LadyBird1973 · 26/09/2023 22:17

I've got the lipstick too - it's okay but not worth what I paid for it. I've got a burts bees tinted lip balm which is much the same. I can't see the gloss being any better tbh. That said, I'm no a believer in buying the thing you hanker after, because it gets it out of your system and when you buy a dupe, without ever having had the real thing, you still wonder if the proper branded one would be better.

Startyabastard · 26/09/2023 22:41

I bloody love a dupe, it's been said on mumsnet before that cheaper makeup has considerably got better in quality and I fully believe it.... most of mine is Collection and Boots 17... their lip gloss is very, very good and thick and can't beat Lancôme which I used to buy the odd bit of when I was a teen.

I think dupes are great if you haven't been hankering after a specific item. But if you've got it into your head that you really want X item, then I think it's worth buying it rather than getting 3 alternatives that aren't quite right and spending near enough the same as the real thing.

I think I'm giving up on lipsticks and in future will just buy Dior lip glow tinted balm or maybe glossier ultra lip which looks nice. I'm always buying beautiful colours in the tube that don't look as nice irl or are not the right texture.

LadyBird1973 · 27/09/2023 07:52

That said, my expensive eyeshadow palettes leak powder all over my face and all seem to be varying shades of sludge, no matter what the colours in the box are! Rimmel eyeshadow was always good, so I agree that good doesn't always have to be very expensive.

KirstenBlest · 27/09/2023 11:54

@LadyBird1973 , what is the colour name of the Burt's Bees tinted lipbalm, please?

notacooldad · 27/09/2023 11:57

Oh that was my favourite for man years.
To me it's worth the money if you can't get a discount anywhere.

LadyBird1973 · 27/09/2023 12:01

@KirstenBlest really sorry but I can't remember the name. I pulled off all the labelling when I opened it! I think it might be Red Dahlia

Beaverbridge · 27/09/2023 12:05

I craved it for years too. Waste of money doesn't last on lips any length of time and that was after lip primer and liner.

MorrisZapp · 27/09/2023 12:12

Sometimes it's best just to suck up the price for an item you really covet. By the time you've pissed about with dupes for months on end you could have just bought the real thing and been enjoying it. That's been my experience anyway.

Having said that, I will also recommend Covergirl Oh Sugar tinted lip balm in Gumdrop, it's really cheap on ebay. It's a dupe for the Fresh Sugar lip balms that were all the rage but it's the nicest I've used.

Are you talking about the 'almost lipstick' or the gloss that I want?

Thanks @LadyBird1973, I buy them but my DM loves them so I keep giving her them unopened. Next time I'll try it and keep it

Beaverbridge · 27/09/2023 15:52

@Startyabastard .Love your username!. Just had a look its the almost lipstick one I got. Had to plank it from daughter!!

learieonthewildmoor · 27/09/2023 16:34

I have the gloss and I really like it. It’s a bit tacky but feels moisturising. I found it lasted a good while and I have acid lips that remove products in 30 minutes.

ThatsMeTold · 27/09/2023 16:37

I bought this after googling dupes. I don’t wear lip colours often enough to splash out on Clinique (although have some other Clinique products) but I do wear lip balm every day.
The Burts one is nice.
