Need to sell a Vivienne Westwood dress but no idea what to ask for!

And advice on the best place to sell would be helpful too. Was thinking Vinted or ebay but I am open to info about anywhere that would be better.

Its an anglomania dress, size 10 and worn once. Was £400 new about 5 years ago. Prices seem to be all over the place so I am stuggling to get a consensus. Usually you can get a rough guide from what others are charging but I cant find anything similar and some people are charging crazy prices, presumably because she passed away.

This one. Is £200 unrealisitic?

If that fit a 12/14 bum, I’d be offering you £120 right now to try my luck.

I got a mcqueen jacket for £80 and a VW bag for £40, so I think expectations have really dropped price wise.

neilyoungismyhero · 24/09/2023 23:49

There's 2 I found after Googling one going for £130 and another 300.

Thats exactly my problem! No consensus!

I may have a punt with £200 and see how it goes.

Its a size 10 @SisterAgatha although on the bigger side, fitted me as a small 12.

I sold a beautiful Anglomania dress this year, was 10 yrs old but only had worn a couple of times. Paid £300 in the sale (think around £500 full price) and had no idea what to list for, listed for £150 via vinted and accepted ten pounds less.
My recommendation would be to list at your top end figure and see what the interest is. Most sales I’ve had like to offer a bit below so anyone interested won’t be backwards in asking for a lower sale price.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 24/09/2023 23:59

Probably depends on whether you want to get the very best price for it or whether you want to sell it quickly.
If the latter and you post it as an auction on eBay it will sell (maybe set a reserve) but you need to be realistic with the start price and make sure beforehand you’ll be happy with the end price even if it doesn’t go as high as you would think ideal.
If the former then somewhere like Vestiare Collective would be better but you have no guarantee of when it may sell.

PyongyangKipperbang · 25/09/2023 00:07

Its part of a clear out but also to help with money towards Xmas so it isnt urgent but sooner would be better. think I will take the advice about sticking it on Vinted for £200 but would be prepared to accept less.

I think Vestiaire Collective is your best bet for designer clothes.

I'd have a look on there to see what similar items have sold for.

I think you might end up letting it go too cheaply on vinted as that's the place that everybody looks for a bargain!

whirlyhead · 25/09/2023 06:36

Nobody wants to pay much for anything at present. You could try eBay but you’d probably be lucky to get £150. I sold off most my designer stuff recently and didn’t even make 10% of the purchase price. Some was brand new. Grim.

thedevilinablackdress · 25/09/2023 07:58

I appreciate we're talking about expensive, probably well made clothes, but think it's slightly unfair to say it's grim when people don't want to pay loads for clothes that they haven't seen, can't try on, most likely can't return and may be 2nd hand. I see my eBay habit as a form of gambling, and I don't like to risk too much.
OP - I think on eBay you can search for items similar to yours, and if you include 'sold', you can see how much things went for.

Slothmoth · 25/09/2023 08:04

I'd go for ebay or one of the boutique sites rather than vinted personally. Vinted is good for getting a bargain but the worst place to get a decent price! It might also be worth looking up VW groups on social media, quite often they have selling pages (as long as have decent rules ie PayPal goods and services only etc) and you might have a more captive audience! Definitely list it for more than you'd be happy with though as you're only ever going to get offers for less rather than more!

Usernamen · 25/09/2023 08:19

Well, definitely list for more than 10% what you paid! (I assume that poster wanted a quick sale?)

I think £200 is about right if it’s in very good condition and only worn once.

I sold a small VW cross body bag on Depop years ago for £40, having paid £105 for it. I was happy with that.

HundredMilesAnHour · 25/09/2023 10:17

I think £200 is too high. £150 is more realistic.

SadlyACupOfTeaDoesNotSolveEverything · 25/09/2023 10:20

Vestiaire Collective is where I would look for great quality and accept it’s a bit more. It feels more reliable to me.
