Outfit for dinner with friends

Hello! Please help! I’ve got a dinner and drinks with friends next weekend and I feel like I’ve got nothing to wear. Im drowning in young children and a very busy work life, and the switch in seasons and weather has left me lacking in the wardrobe department (last autumn was breastfeeding, the year before was pregnant, the year before was covid, the year before breastfeeding etc, so my priorities for autumn clothes were different). I was quite happy with my summer clothes, which was largely stuff from Cos and Whistles, with some old Zara thrown in. But I think most won’t work where I’ll be due to being cold and rainy.

I’m tall and about a size 10 and late 30s.

I’ve got a decent leather jacket, nice-fitting Cos cropped jeans in black and blue, some nice new green full-length trousers (which I bought for work but could maybe be made to suit a night out) and maybe a cropped jumpsuit that could work. But I’m also open to buying a whole outfit/dress. I’d like to avoid heels.

Restaurant will be fairly formal. Help!

Tall and a size 10 - easy peasy OP and your current options all sound like a good base.
I want to highly recommend the Sezane Chloe / Chlo? silk blouse. It's kind of an 'if in doubt' top and it's just lovely. Could go with either of your trousers.
Maybe a new / vinted handbag - i think that updates a look as well.

Pic of the trousers?

What kind of shoes/boots are you hoping to wear?

Are there any dresses in Cos or Whistles you like? Cos have a satin asymmetrical one online that looks great if you don’t mind sleeveless.

Budget, please?

Thank you for the ideas! I do like a silk blouse/shirt (or anything silk). And I love a dress, but find that harder with shoes outside the summer.

budget I guess of £300 and maybe more for the right items. I have been trying to buy stuff in better materials that I can wear a lot, even if it’s much more expensive than I use to buy. I’m aiming for a butter quality but smaller wardrobe - but that’s a work in progress!

Image of green trousers attached. Weirdly I don’t think they actually look that good on the model!

I also have cream Reiss bootlegs/flares.

Black lacy high or tie neck blouse with the green trousers?

Lentilweaver · 24/09/2023 11:12

With that budget , I would buy a Sezane shirt to wear with the trousers.

Do you know how quick Suzanne deliver. I love the shirt mentioned so will probably buy it, but wondering if it’d make it here by Friday
