Everything is black, white, beige or khaki. It’s just all so dull and I can’t wear any of those colours. Zara had some lovely pieces but boxy or oversized jumpers just make me look massive. I’m a size 12 with boobs. Today was just so difficult and I couldn’t find anything smart causal. If I wanted a bog standard hoodie, puffer jacket or gilet, these were in abundance. I just wanted one or two nice tops/jumpers. I tried Zara, H&M, New Look and Primark. I’ve got marks and Spencer while DS is at rugby tomorrow.

Has anyone else been shopping recently? Have you found anything lovely?

Definitely suggest having a look at Sainsburys tu and tesco F&F really nice colourful jumpers and other clothing but great prices

Mmhmmn · 24/09/2023 23:22

Fashion drives me nuts. I’d look like a bloody hobbit in cropped jeans.

OP, if the shops are full of wrong type of thing you might be better googling for the specific things you’re after ie “turquoise v neck jumper” etc and seeing what pops up

I love this!

www.kettlewellcolours.co.uk is great. I knew I wanted colours but didn’t have confidence to know which colours work best on me (especially with only dreary options to try on in the high street!) so found their quizzes really helpful too.

I really like Mango, Fat Face, Seasalt plain coloured tops, Tu (Sainsburys) & Hobbs.

Lucyintheskywithcubiczirconia · 25/09/2023 00:17

Oh I also did a stitch fix order - where you answer a load of questions and state any preferences and they choose 5 items for you. I was really pleasantly surprised! Apparently lookeiro is good too (not sure if that’s how it’s spelled!)

atthebottomofthehill · 25/09/2023 00:31

Oliver Bonas is terribly expensive relative to the quality. £66 for that cardigan! Uniqlo is much better for the price/quality ratio. If you can splash out on proper knitwear what about NavyGrey, some lovely blues. Sezane a good shout. Definitely look for more expensive brands on Vinted. I struggle to look nice in Zara or other similarly priced brands now over 40 - need better cuts and material.

PyongyangKipperbang · 25/09/2023 01:07

Agree with Joe Browns, they do some beautiful coloured stuff. Their new autumn range is vibrate without being OTT.

PyongyangKipperbang · 25/09/2023 01:08

Vibrant!

Dighi · 25/09/2023 08:49

@NatashaDancing man, you have good taste. This is a perfect dress, one day I shall buy from here…, but sadly currently completely out of my price range.

Aixellency · 25/09/2023 09:11

@Dighi if you like Colenimo dresses you’ll find plenty of inspiration (and maybe prompts for pre-owned searching) here:

But Community Clothing does some voluminous cotton dresses at much smaller prices.

@Lightsandtights I would try Woolovers for a range of different colours and natural fibres. Excellent customer service too.

lindyloo57 · 25/09/2023 17:17

I have not shopped so much in m&s this year, every thing i like( online) is out of stock in my size, trousers, silver leather mini skirt, jeans. I give up.

lindyloo57 · 25/09/2023 17:18

it seems everything thats popular denim midi skirt and things mentioned above, they don't ordered enough stock.

GreyBlackBay · 25/09/2023 20:30

I'm looking for more jeweled colours and wandered round selfridges, m&s and John Lewis without spotting many.

Hobbs do have a nice selection of berry tones in.

Fat face have some lovely colours but the fit isn't for me.

Bodens usually good for color, and white stuff.

Can I ask what sizing and quality are like - have seen a couple of things that look good online , thank you

Good, I have had sone of their jumpers 2-3 years and they keep their shape and colour well. I like their jumpers with sparkle too they’ve also washed well.

I do buy mostly in the sale though..

Lightsandtights · 26/09/2023 06:28

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I’ve seen some nice tops and jumpers in marks and Spencer that I have ordered. Ditto with John Lewis and some new seasons from next. All to arrive later this week so fingers crossed.

Can you up your budget at all? I have no issues finding what you want in Whistles, Jigsaw, Sezane, Other Stories and sometimes Reiss

BHRK · 26/09/2023 06:39

Sorry just seen your update

Saggypants · 26/09/2023 07:57

Uniqlo for jumpers! Choice of merino, lambswool or cashmere, choice of necklines, heaps of colours in each.

Littlemiss74 · 26/09/2023 11:47

following as in the same boat!

I saw a lovely jumper in Reiss but the neckline was all wrong. If that was right, I’d have bought it. I am going to look at Other Stories this evening online. Budget is quite good. I’d rather have 1 or 2 items at £100 each than 6 that I make do with for the same price.

Some lovely stuff there. It's a very similar shop to Envoy of Belfast or Dick's of Edinburgh.
