Am thinking chunky. Black or sparkly.
I'm 5'8"
For an evening party/awards night. Informal.

Oh god...is the dress awful on me?!

It isn't awful on you at all OP. It's lovely and you have an enviable figure. However, I do think you could find something that flatters your shape more.

Know I haven't answered your question at all re shoes, sorry!

CharlotteBog · 24/09/2023 04:09

Thank you. I do normally go for dresses that are more fitted; I was thinking this was more a 60s Mary Quant/Twiggy look.
The evening includes a carvery - think how many Yorkshire puddings I can eat without my waist band getting snug!

I would suggest some black ankle boots with this dress. But i do agree that you could pull off a more figure hugging dress

SevenKingsMustDie · 24/09/2023 06:19

Love the dress OP! Where is it from - looks like you're in a changing room so hoping it's in the shops now!

To answer your original question, I would go with a chunky ankle boot.

bopbey · 24/09/2023 06:28

I would go with some chunky platforms

It's from Next Outlet.

I got some shoes. Now I don't know whether to team with black or nude tights.

£13 Next outlet. Can't go wrong!

You need bold or black tights and Chelsea boots with that dress, nude tights wouldn't work.

Thanks. I don't have Chelsea boots.

Event is tomorrow i.e. this is the dress and shoes I have and will be wearing.
It's more of a casual, party event rather than formal meal.

Which tights do you think? Thick or thinner?

The shoes are odd actually. Shoe boot style but in a sandal. And a square toe.
They were £13 in Next Outlet and no one will be looking at my feet nor care.

Oh and what to do with the back of the dress. I would have preferred a conventional neck, but this is what I have!

Thank you style gurus. I only have my 14 year old son here.

Shall I go into fashion photography do you think? 😂

OP posts:
Saverage · 24/11/2023 06:09

I think the thinner tights look better, the thicker ones kind of merge into the shoes a bit.

NoNeedToArgue · 24/11/2023 06:11

I think the opaque tights look great!

NashvilleQueen · 24/11/2023 06:25

I struggle with any tights with an open toe shoe but that just my preference. The dress looks way better with black tights though and you've got really nice shapely legs!

CharlotteBog · 24/11/2023 07:55

You're right @NashvilleQueen - tights seam showing isn't ideal. I didn't think of that.

OP posts:
CharlotteBog · 24/11/2023 11:31

I've asked around and the thin ones seem to be preferred.
Unfortunately, what I was wearing in this photo was a single hold up. I have only one! I will have to get some hateful tights from Tesco later. Decent hold ups are hard to get hold of.

I like the thinner tight with your outfit. Which looks great btw! Fab set of legs on you!!

CharlotteBog · 26/11/2023 00:15

Thanks all.
In the end I had a rummage through my hosiery drawer (which I would like point out I never refer to it as that IRL!) and found many, many tights and random hold ups and found a pair a little darker than the thinner, but still thin IYKWIM.

It was my running club's annual do and I got quite a few compliments on my sparkly dress, AND won a prize. No one looked at the god awful shoes I don't think!

I've always run and enjoy it a great deal so I guess I have legs suited to that sport, but I know and welcome that running keeps them toned.

CharlotteBog · 26/11/2023 00:17

Oh and I cut the tie thing at the back off which looked much better.
