Do bracelets ever go out of style? I always wanted one of those ones with the lines and the padlock, like this one: https://www.thbaker.co.uk/second-hand-9ct-yellow-gold-four-bar-gate-bracelet-4153201
but I'm worried it'll look weird/dated as I'm in my mid-thirties and they stopped making/selling them new about 25 years ago!
I really like vintage stuff in general and my style is generally country and classic (tweed jackets, brown leather shoes etc).

I think classic jewellery never goes out of style. Also if you like it wear it!!

Each of us has our own style. If you love it wear it!

Shinyandnew1 · 23/09/2023 12:55

I think jewellery is so personal, it doesn’t really matter. You might like something that I don’t think it’s stylish and vice versa, but if you love it, then wear it!

BlackJumpsuit · 23/09/2023 13:03

If it's what you love, get it.
I've been wearing the same little silver square bangle every day for at least 15 years so fashion doesn't come into it.

Redlarge · 23/09/2023 13:06

Omg I pawned one of these years ago. Looks exactly like it. I got £60.
Get it, love it, sod anyone elses opinion

ClaraBourne · 23/09/2023 13:19

I always wanted one of those !

Definitely get it.

Rina66 · 23/09/2023 13:29

My parents bought me one of those for my 21st birthday in 1987 - they were called five bar gate bracelets. It's very interesting how everything comes around again, I always wonder how and where the trend starts.

anomaly2 · 23/09/2023 13:34

Hate bracelets like fob chain necklaces were huge in the 80s and 90s but fell out of favour but I think they are now a staple. A classic that no one would judge as bad. This is rye problem when a classic becomes 'cool' for a moment and the. It feels dated when the trend goes. It takes a while and then it's back as a classic. It's the same with van Cleef Alhambra pendants. These are absolutely a classic but as they are being worn by IG influencers and reality stars it will suffer a backlash for a few years

Milknosugarta · 23/09/2023 13:37

That's a classic design gate bracelet. Lovely. If you like it, have it.
I find bracelets more comfortable than bangles.

Oldraver · 23/09/2023 13:58

I have a beautiful Victorian gate bracelet like this and do occasionally wear it (I prefer non yellow go old though)

I think they did go out of fashion for a while but think anything goes now. I've noticed lots of people wearing gold discs talisman type things, maybe one day I could wear my sovereign 😅 ( I bought it as a Millennium momento)

cocksstrideintheevening · 23/09/2023 15:14

I have a tennis bracelet and bloody love it. Not everyone's style, choose what you like.

141mum · 23/09/2023 19:07

They were called Gate Bracelets, lol, people used to say, oh I’ve got a 5 bar gate or I’ve got a 3 bar gate. My mum had one, it was a 6 bar gate !!

agent765 · 23/09/2023 19:51

If you like it, get it. It's (IMO) much nicer than the mass-produced bracelets seen on everyone these days (though if you have one of them it may become a classic in 30 years, too).

You'll always get some of your money back if you stop loving it. Especially if you buy second-hand.

AdoraBell · 23/09/2023 22:11

Your choice, if you like it then wear it.
