Tingly hair dye patch test

I have had natural silver/white hair for the last 2 years and really want a change now.
I'm 46 so not that old and on lots of photos I look like I have a bald head if the light hits my head the wrong way!
I have bought some L'Oreal Paris Excellence in dark caramel blonde, however on applying the patch test my skin tingles for a second and now I have slightly raised, bumpy skin.
Would I be a complete idiot to just carry on and dye my hair? There is no pain or discomfort, just the slightly bumpy, raised skin.

This is the reason I stopped dyeing. I started reacting. I'm almost completely grey.

I know what you mean about looking bald in photos - that took some getting used to but I know my hair looks fine in the flesh, as I'm sure yours does.

In short: don't do it.

StanleyGoodspeed · 21/09/2023 14:00

no I would not use it

EquallyDetermined · 21/09/2023 14:02

100% avoid. Allergies can get much more severe very rapidly.

crackersforcheese · 21/09/2023 14:03

Please do not use the dye!!

caramac04 · 21/09/2023 14:12

Another one saying no. A bad reaction can be really really bad.

Summerslimtime · 21/09/2023 14:20

I'm grey for that reason. Don't do it!!!

It's only photos, don't worry.

Fishcake77 · 21/09/2023 14:24

Thanks all, and I so wanted to have dark caramel blonde hair! Smile

Yes you'd be daft. I've also become allergic, post pregnancy in my case.

I now get a balayage as in foils it
Doesn't touch my skin

Hair dye sensitivity should be taken seriously.

Fishcake77 · 22/09/2023 07:37

In case anyone chooses to ignore the 'mild tingle' on first application! It gets worse. I'm just very relieved this isn't my whole head.

Yikes that looks painful, there's a lesson there for any of us that might be tempted to skip the patch test. Hope it heals up quickly.

HappiDaze · 22/09/2023 07:52

Bloody hell what a strong reaction you had

Thank god you did a patch test

MidnightOnceMore · 22/09/2023 07:54

So glad you did the patch test and didn't proceed!

Hair dye allergy is no joke.

HappiDaze · 22/09/2023 07:55

I've been using clairol nice and easy for years but when they changed the formula to a creamy mixture I didn't do a patch test.

Luckily I was ok but in future I will now always do a patch test if they change formulas.

cocksstrideintheevening · 22/09/2023 13:15

That's exactly what my reaction is like, even with the no ammonia stuff that my hairdresser was convinced would be ok
