Vit C and retinol ?

DustyLee123 · 21/09/2023 08:12

I’ve recently had some sun damage removed from my cheeks, so want to look at doing better in the future. I believe I should be using vit C serum in the morning and another serum at night (retinol?). So can I have some suggestions that aren’t too expensive. Thanks.

If you're in the UK, tret isn't available OTC, so you'd need a prescription from your Dr (unlikely) or via Dermatica/Skin & Me subscription. If you've not used tret before, Geek and Gorgeous do a good retinal at a very good price (£18 approx) and also a good vit C serum. You're right in thinking vit C in the morning, retinal/tret at night. Don't forget a good sunscreen too!

Yes, I’m in the UK. I have a sunscreen ( think it’s Ambre Soliare in a small white bottle) but happy to get another if it would be better.

Simple have just come up with a range of serums that are very good and very reasonably priced - around £7. Maybe try a Niacinamide under the Retinol to curb its harshness - best one is from The Ordinary.

I use Sali Hughes vit c serum in the morning and Revolution 1% retinol in the evening. Both inexpensive and effective!

Spf really important in the AM as you'll already know!

I use vitamin c serum and retinol from a brand called inkey list.

I use the ordinary Granactive Retinoid, Hydrochloric acid and vit c at night and Hydrochloric acid and sunscreen in the morning. I've also started using this pink serum from there as well, my redness has disappeared now. My skin has been great for the first time!

I've got a little bit of hyperpigmentation on my face, would vitC and retinol be the best thing for that too? I'm using an anti pigmentation tinted moisturiser with spf every day (eucerin) did try their serum, but although it felt lovely it didn't seem to fade it at all.

Daffodil77 · 06/10/2023 16:57

Make sure your sun screen if spf50 if you're going to use retinol.

Beauty pie do a routine based around niacinamide and vitamin c in the morning and retinol at night. (You can do a 1 month free trial).

Tdcp · 07/10/2023 16:27

Hyaluronic acid 😂😂my phone auto corrected that one 😂

Catabogus · 07/10/2023 20:31

Thank goodness!

LondonQueen · 09/10/2023 00:04

Hydrochloric acid I love it😂
With vitamin C and SPF you'll prevent aging and brighten your skin. Everything else has very limited research behind it.

@DustyLee123 Did you have laser to remove the sun damage? If so, how many sessions did it take? I'm desperate to get rid of mine.

Me too.

The combo of them has made a marked difference to my skin. I've never notified anything actually work before so it's rather novel.

Yes. I only needed one session, the lady said mine wasn’t bad. I wish I’d had it done years ago.
