Going on holiday, feeling bleh

Help!

I'm going on a week's holiday 3 weeks on Saturday and suddenly I feel...less than good.

I've got my hair appointment booked for the Saturday before but what else I can do?

I've got clothes bought and bikinis bought that I feel good in. I'm back at the gym.

I don't want to be applying makeup everyday, so any recommendations beyond an eyebrow tint and wax?

Something that will help me feel "together" and more like me instead of this....exhausted, low mood mammoth.

Info may be relevant: I love all things hair and beauty, drink more than enough water, and have skin&me.

I've just had a lot on my plate recently and now it's showing/or not but I feel like it is ☹️

Eyelash extensions always make me feel more 'done up' at all times for a holiday!

Squash24 · 18/09/2023 13:57

I always get a lash lift & tint, but extensions look great too (I’m blessed with long eyelashes so the lift and tint is enough for me)

Fake tan if it’s your cuppa tea. A separate self tanning mist for the face (or spray tan it all at a salon if you prefer) Makes me feel amazing.

Mani/pedi at home or the salon. I do feet at home but Hands at the salon as enjoy the treat

Thats the beauty bits done (which help to lift my mood). Why else do you not feel great, time to address that? Do you need a better sleep routine before you go? Some motivational / mental health podcasts?

I am sure you will have a great time

I particularly love a bright pedi before a holiday.

I've never felt brave enough to get my eyelashes done and at nearly 50 am too old now. But it sounds like a good idea.

I also enjoy choosing a couple of holiday books.

I always go to a salon for my pedicure as I can't get the same finish at home.

I'm loving nail wraps, so easy and because they don't chip (or at least not as easily/quickly as polish) they look neat and tidy and i feel better having them on.
Other than those it's the hair which you've already got booked.

I'm [quite a few years] older than you and I have eyelash extensions 😃My own lashes are quite short. I have them done very natural looking, like I have a very, very good mascara on.

Currently also fake tanned, waxed, finger and toe nails painted - leaving for the airport in two hours. 😎

You're never too old!

Books are a good shout, I've read some awful ones recently which haven't helped. Instead of reading a book, because they've all been awful, I've been doom scrolling.

I had my nails gelled the other week, and they lasted 4 days. Not the technician, entirely me. Gel doesn't like sticking on my nails.

It's mainly MH, which impacts my sleep/or my sleep impacts it ..it's cyclic. Podcast recommendations also welcome, I drive a lot!

Hi OP. I live in a holiday destination and first and foremost I would say: don’t worry, relax and enjoy not just your holiday but the build up to it. Embrace who you are and don’t sweat over things that nobody else will notice.

Treat yourself to some gorgeous bubble bath, shower gel, body scrub, lotion etc and use it every day until you go. Body brushing even for a short period makes a difference. Look up facial massage techniques on YouTube or instagram. Honestly a 5 minute massage even without professional knowledge will make a big difference to your appearance: increasing blood flow and decreasing any bloat. If it’s feasible, build a new evening routine of healthy meal followed by a delicious pamper and an early night with a good book or podcast.

Personally I’m not a fan of pre holiday fake tanning. If it goes wrong you will be miserable & self conscious. Much better to have healthy, glowing primed skin courtesy of your new self care routine.

Buy some glamorous sunglasses that you feel chic and confident in. And a stylish but practical beach bag and hat (I see women wafting around with these massive hats which they have to carry because they catch in the wind!) Ditto comfortable shoes for the beach or poolside and for evening (I live in 3 pairs of flat leather sandals: tan, black and gold & a pair of trusty Birkenstocks - not glam but you will walk more comfortably and appear more relaxed and chic as a result.

I hope you have an awesome break OP!
