Stylish but truly waterproof jacket

Hello!

I'm after a truly rainproof jacket, that will withstand serious, British rainfall.

I also want it to look good, and come below the bum, or further down.

Not padded so I can wear it when it's not cold, but not that horrible clingy material

And must have a hood that I can tighten around my face.

Can anyone recommend any such thing?

I've been eyeing up the burghaus rothley (pictured) does anyone have real world opinions in this?

Rains! but be careful- usually take a size or two smaller

Protected Species is recommended a lot here

Thank you! I'll check these out

I have a Berghaus but not that one and it keeps the rain out. It's got a hood, mesh lining and I wear it most of the year, with a fleece under it if it's really cold. I'm stylish me

Seasalt are the most waterproof I’ve ever had. The lightweight ones are still lined so they’re nice inside.

www.longcoats.co.uk is your friend here! I personally buy the men's ones as I'm quite tall and HATE the bottom of my trousers getting wet. But if you want a more stylish/feminine look they also have women's coats.

Really, truly, genuinely waterproof no matter how heavy the rain or for how long. Wore mine this morning in torrential downpour, I was completely dry underneath. (And got VERY jealous looks from everyone else out and about getting wet legs from their short coats, and wet generally from their lack of suitable coats.)

Longcoats Trading Co. - Long raincoats for dog walking, horse riders

We sell long raincoats. Usually there is a horse rider, dog walker or dragon trainer involved but not always. Here at Longcoats Trading we do not like getting wet or faffing around with waterproof trousers. Join the Longcoats today and let the adventur...

Someone posted an almost identical request last week and got lots of responses if you can find that thread.

I always recommend Ilse Jacobsen. They don’t ship to the UK at the moment but John Lewis sell them.

They are, but I have one and although I love it, it doesn't withstand heavy rain. Might be the style I have (the Commuter) but I have arrived at work drenched (after commuting, oh the irony) as the rain soaked through into the lining of the coat.

I have this Noronna jacket but in black. Bought in the sale a few years ago.

Really? That's very helpful. People wax lyrical about them so much so that I had bought the Commuter weeks ago but after purchase they told me my colour/size combo was out of stock and wasn't sure when it would be back but I could wait. I ended up cancelling. Glad I did now, I want a light weight coat but one that can withstand heavy rains. The Longcoats brand looks promising.

I had a protected species one in my basket too but decided to wait til payday! If they're not properly waterproof I will swerve...although my seasalt one isn't completely waterproof either, I should add!

Vicliz24 · 18/09/2023 14:03

I have two protected species parkas . Both the winter and the summer one . Both 4 plus years old and I arrived at work this morning completely dry despite the pouring rain. I wouldn't be without them they're my most worn coats.

Cantonet · 18/09/2023 14:08

I have a protected species Tour & it's perfectly waterproof.

smooththecat · 18/09/2023 14:09

If you get a rains one, re sizing, it was really useful to have one that could fit over an actual coat and still do up.

SingingSands · 18/09/2023 21:14

It could just be the Commuter coat that's not brilliantly waterproof. But that said, I do still wear absolutely loads - its very stylish and light. I bought mine when it was heavily discounted in 2020 and have worn it in every season. It's a real classic.
