I found a truly lovely jumpsuit but DD is shocked I wasn’t planning on wearing a dress.

I want to go try things on, in a proper shop. Every time I find something I like online I’ve found out that’s the only way to buy it.

Im trying to lose a stone so it’s not like I can measure myself now and plan what size I’ll be.

I went to Phase Eight and was disappointed.

am willing to travel two hours from Sevenoaks in Kent for the right shop. Max budget £250 (is that stingy?).

I love JJ’s house outfits which look fab on the models but looking through the gallery of buyers photo’s feel disappointed at the amount of creases. Can’t work out if that’s lack of the right bra/underwear.

I want a more of an evening type thing, don’t want a jacket, love A line, something to possibly flatter my belly which I’m working on but not sure it’s shifting. Knee length. Sleeves a must, don’t mind length. Favourite colour is blue, def not black. I would love a wow look rather than just smart.

I’ve spent hours trawling the net these past few months, I’ve four weeks to go and I’m totally flustered now. Any thoughts would be truly appreciated.

@Eve love Bombshell, got my wedding outfit from there, and then bought 2 more as they are beautifully made and I couldn’t resist, the sales are very good. You can also book an appointment in their showroom and apparently that is an amazing experience

Rina66 · 18/09/2023 19:44

If you're going to London, have you looked at Nigel Raymont in New Quebec Street W1, near The Churchill Hotel? You do need to book an appointment but they have an in house tailor, sell hats etc. Quite a few of their dresses go in to the sale which would bring them within budget...

A friend of mine got her MoB dress from Bombshell, she said the shop service itself was wonderful. She had many compliments and that although it looked stunning it was also incredibly comfortable, so she felt confident and relaxed all day.

Wow, thanks! You are all brilliant. Got sidetracked with visitors tonight so I’ve only just come back to look.

lots of lovely options, bluewater and London all doable, I love Harrogate.

the jumpsuit was a jj’s house which I felt wouldn’t crease, I’ll see if I can upload a photo but I’m not good at these things. Lol.

Sorry I can't help thinking your daughter is being unreasonable. Why shouldn't you wear the jumpsuit you thought was lovely?

Can we see the jumpsuit you liked?

Here’s the jump suit.

Managed a sneaky trip to Hobbs in BW as was passing for a meeting in Chatham. Tried this one on but didn’t have it in my size. It’s also £329.

Here’s the jump suit.

Actually it’s not a jumpsuit, they call it pants, top and jacket.

Here’s the jump suit.

It’s beautiful and you should wear that.

Riverbananacarrot · 20/09/2023 20:50

Could you contact local bridal shops, a lot of the time they have sister stores that sell MOB/MOG outfits.

LadyLapsang · 20/09/2023 23:14

I like the jumpsuit and I have seen the Hobbs dress in the summer colours, pale blue and pale pink, and it looks suitable MOB /G as long as you aren’t long in the body. (Someone is selling a size 8 pale blue one worn for eight hours and dry cleaned on Vinted for 60.00.)

I have a similar dilemma. I like this. I’m planning to hire the hat in the picture.

I really like that Oska dress (tbh I think it's the nicest on the thread by a considerable margin)

I like Oska but wouldn't have thought of them for dressy up clothes but with a good pair of shoes (rather than the ones they've styled it with) and your hat it'll be a striking outfit.

Whilst it's not for your daughter to dictate what you can or can't wear, I can see her point, sorry.

Mummyoflittledragon · 21/09/2023 05:24

Have you looked at the ordering lead time for the jumpsuit? 8-16th October. I am not that keen. But if you would feel comfortable in it and it suits your body type, that’s great. A good iron would remove wrinkles.

If you’re attempting to lose weight, would it be better to go with something with Lycra and have it just about fit you now so that if you don’t lose weight, it’s fine and if you do, it still fits?

If you do need any more help, it would be useful to have your size, height and body shape.

One thing you do need to remember is if things don’t fit, eg if the jumpsuit trousers are too long, you may need to get clothes altered. So I would be looking to try to sort this asap. I think unless you can go to a physical shop soon, maybe look to order a few outfits and send back what doesn’t fit.

After you’ve bought your main outfit, you then need accessories - hat, shoes, bag etc.

Thank you so much. You have an excellent eye so that means a lot - I had actually thought about tagging you so I’m really pleased you like it. Much as I like Oska, it wouldn’t have occurred to me to go there either but I spotted it in the window and was instantly drawn to it. I thought these shoes.

Good shoes, and a bargain too. You'll get lots of wear out them and the dress.

BIossomtoes · 21/09/2023 09:23

Thank you. They’ll get another outing for my son’s graduation next summer - without the hat, obviously!

Bluevelvetsofa · 21/09/2023 14:34

Love The Fold one.

Fossbarron · 22/09/2023 07:03

Been there myself. If you don't find the right dress wear pantsuit that you do like. Try Asos. Sounds crazy but if you just size up a couple of sizes you could get lucky with something really stylish.

ZombieGirl86 · 22/09/2023 07:20

Not read all the comments so apologies if I'm repeating. Definitely don't order from JJs house we had to return prom dress the images are nothing like the tat that arrives x

Dressini.com has some stunning mother of the bride dresses, including Rosa Clara's.

It doesn’t look as if Dressini sells online. Market Bosworth (nearish to Leicester) is lovely but difficult to get to, no train line and further than op wants to travel.
